PC speaker beeping madly

I'm running FL on a 2.4Ghz PIV with G4 4200 video and SB Live sound under Win2k. Everything is working very well, except that my PC speaker starts to act strangely after a while.
What happens is that when I move my cursor (using a Logitech mouse) across menu panels when landed, my built-in PC speaker (NOT my actual sound system) emits a variety of beeps. This doesn't happen every time I move across a panel, and I can't reproduce it exactly twice in a row. But it happens entirely too often and is very annoying.
Now I could of course disconnect my pc speaker, but that wouldn't solve the problem, would it - and who knows, maybe there is something much worse happening...

Any ideas?
