Aarrrgghh! grrrrr!

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Post Wed Mar 26, 2003 3:40 pm

Yup.

I've got the latest nvidia drivers, I've tried earlier ones. I've got the dx 9.0a runtimes. I've tried the dx 9 sdk. 3d mark 2003 runs ok and that's dx 9. The first cutscene runs perfectly.

I might try disabling my on board sound card see if that helps.

Phew! It's fixed!

Nvidia released some new drivers on the 27th March and it appears to have fixed the problem.

What if you have an ATI card, and the Nvidia drivers will have no help?

I'm having the same problem - FL was working fine last afternoon, then last night it just stopped working. For no apparent reason. Again, I got past the 3 movies, but then it cuts out to the desktop. Which sucks. Any help out there?

To add, the FLSpew.txt presents this error:

*** WARNING: failed to load mission DLL 'D:\Installed Games\Freelancer\dlls\bin\Content.dll'
E:\FL\Scratch\Source\Server\dlls.cpp(167) : *** ERROR: failed create DLL instance 'Content.dll' (make sure file exists)

Oooh. I'm not sure what to do if you've got an ATI card. Have you tried not playing the movies? Some people seem to have been able to get around it by doing that.

in the exe directory find freelancer.ini and change
[Startup
movie_file = movies\MGS_Logo_Final.wmv
movie_file = movies\DA_Logo_Final.wmv
movie_file = movies\FL_Intro.wmv

to

[Startup
;movie_file = movies\MGS_Logo_Final.wmv
;movie_file = movies\DA_Logo_Final.wmv
;movie_file = movies\FL_Intro.wmv

ie. Just add a semi-colon to the comment out each line.

Good luck

I had the same problems during the game startup. It would get to the title screen then crash before the main menu. I tried many different things before i found the problem. Try moving all of your saved games to somewhere else, and see if that solves the problem. (these are saved under your 'My Documents\My Games\FreeLancer"

Nog

Well...I finally got the game to work. I had updated all my drivers except the Motherboard 4in1 drivers. As soon as I had installed the latest drivers, then game ran fine (with all settings at maximum)
