Aarrrgghh! grrrrr!

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Aarrrgghh! grrrrr!

Hello

Please God someone help me. I'm having problems with both the Demo and the full game. If I play the demo I get to watch the first cut scene (which I can't bloody skip), when it gets to the part where the station has been blown up and there's bits of debris floating about it just crashes to the desktop.

With the full game, I've installed it, it plays the intro movie, then crashes to the desktop. I commented out the movie lines in freelancer.ini and that got it to the main menu. Start a single player game and it's the same result as the demo.

Join a multiplayer game and it crashes.

I've tried turning down the sound acceleration and that just got it to crash out earlier.

My specs are.
P4 2GHZ
512 DDR ram
GeForce 4 Ti 4600
DirectX 9.0a
Don't know how to find what drivers I'm using but it was a recently downloaded version of them (in the last 3 weeks or so).

Any ideas?

Thanks

Tried a few more things...

Tried dropping the resolution to 800x600. I accepted the settings clicked new game then instant crash. Restarted and it did the same thing as the previous res and demo.

Have tried different bit depths for my desktop and/or game. No difference.

When the cut scene plays, it's perfect regarding sound / gfx etc.

If I have to listen to the first cut scene once more......

Hehehe.....I am having exactly the same problem as you! I agree about the cut-scene, I have lost count how many times I have seen it (or part of it).

I have tried just about all of the solutions and advice given in these forums, with no luck

I'll keep trying and let you know if I have any luck.

Check FLSpew.txt the last entries are...

E:\FL\Scratch\Source\Client\Gf\LocationController.cpp(1029) : *** WARNING: Failed to get start location
E:\FL\Scratch\Source\Server\space\StarSys.cpp(540) : *** WARNING: StarSystem::enter(): CLI(1) System(FP7_system)
E:\FL\Scratch\Source\Client\space\space.cpp(382) : *** WARNING: Unknown camera type? (ChaseCamera)
E:\FL\Scratch\Source\Server\space\StarSys.cpp(774) : *** WARNING: StarSystem::exit(): CLI(1) System(FP7_system)

has anyone got a saved game that's been saved at the earliest oppurtunity at all?

thanks

scott

I think this is past the opening movie.. if not let me know and I'll grab another save. http://home.insightbb.com/~stephen84/flsave.exe

Thanks for the save game. Unfortunately it didn't work. Just bombed out straight away. Checking the FLSpew.txt just gave the following warning before it crashed...

E:\FL\Scratch\Source\Client\Gf\LocationController.cpp(1029) : *** WARNING: Failed to get start location

which is also in the standard start. damn damn damn damn

Hmmmm... sorry man.. wanna try another save?

Post Wed Mar 26, 2003 3:44 am

Well at least things are slightly different now...

Sometimes (about 50%), the save will actually load ok and the game will start to play. I failed the mission, as I didn't have a clue what to do and told it to load from it's last autosave. Then it crashed.

It just seems a bit random to be honest. It doesn't crash in the same place when I try to start a new single player game. Sometimes it wil crash straight away, sometimes at the end and sometimes in the middle.

haven't a clue what to try now.

Thanks again anyway

Hey your welcome for that save... and you've tried everythingon this forum to try and fix it? :?

Yup.

Short of formatting my machine and reinstalling everything. I can't think what it could be. The demo does the same thing. Guess I'll have to wait for patch.

thats what I did. what I did differently was let freelancer install directX9 instead of from the dx9 setup I had already. turns out my dx9 setup was corrupt so that was causing it.

thing was it was working great for me, but one of my hdd's crashed so I had to reinstall windows. so since I had fux0red my system trying to get this game going, I decided to wipe it all out again to get a clean slate. this time I let freelancer install directX9 and whammo it works perfect.

now I can get my fixxxx. ahhhhhhhh

if I was you I would just back your **** up and reinstall windows. let freelancer install directx9 and dont install sp1 or any codecs until you know freelancer is working. worth a try, given your luck so far.

hope my input here helps. if not, well I tried, and at least I shared what worked for me. its an extreme solution, but you may be at that point.

Have you updated all your drivers to make sure they're dx9 compatible?
