Sluggish mouse

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Sluggish mouse

I've just downloaded the demo and I'm finding the mouse very sluggish and difficult to control. On the options screen, there is a huge lag between moving the mouse and it actually moving. Makes it tricky to click the buttons let alone control the ship!

AMD Athlon XP 2100+
256MB RAM
64MB nVIDIA GeForce2 MX

Any ideas?

Cheers, Rob.

I have the same machine only with more memory and the same prob. Does
this sound like your prob? The mouse starts slow then you try to stop on the target and go right by then you have counteract to go back. Then you ocillate back and fourth. I have not learned to control it yet. For some reason known only
to Bill Gates, they put a time delay in the games mouse driver for the game. This
is on top of the fact theres no joystick, and this they say is for your enjoyment. Gee I wish I was that smart. I would have said "Let the game work both ways that way even more people would play the game" Any help greatly apreciated

I had exactly the same problem....

I changed the moving buttons to keys and i only use the mouse to shoot.
But i dont see the mouse lag in the game just at the options screen.

If you want to use the mouse to move take your resolution down and the amout of detail and it might just do it

Yes. that's exactly the effect I get. It's a game in itself trying to select "NEW GAME" :-)

Not sure whether it's there in the main game to the same degree. The mouse is very sensitive making it very easy to overshoot and therefore pretty difficult to target. But I've only tried it a couple of times.

I'll experiment with some of the video settings.

Read my post and maybe it will answer your question?

I think it's just the options screen that is sluggish. I dropped the screen resolution down to 16 bit and I've spent the past couple of hours playing. The mouse did take a bit of getting used to, but the lag isn't present in the game - I'm just not very good at it :-)

I have the same prob, but not only in the options menu. It is also ingame and it is very anoying when trying to select an enemy. I know, you can press "r" but it's not always the one you want to attack. Also selecting battleships or even planets are difficult to select. I drastically decreased my detail and resolution, but now i don't like the game that much anymore

Please help, these are my comp. specs:
amd athlon 2000+
geforce 2 mx 64 MB
768 DDR ram (i even bought more for this game! i first had 256)
Microsoft intelli mouse explorer

and yes, i tried several video drivers and downloaded the newest mouse drivers (wich actually made my performance worse)

You might want to try messing with the "render no more than x frames" setting in the nVidia control panel. This option is hidden by default, and you'll need to download and install a tool from www.guru3d.com/files to unlock it called nvHardPage, and activate "Coolbits". I have mine set to 3 with vertical sync off and I have no mouse lag issues on the menus.

News form microsoft- I contacted the big M about the mouse problem. There is
no fix for this problem- not a bug but a seting inside the program itself. Is this
the default setting set up by the programing team it self for mouse performance?! And once again this is done for our game playing enjoyment.
This again displays my ignorance of bussines. I would have have said "Hay let the Player deside how they want to set up the mouse or the Joystick"

For me it only appears to be a problem on the options screen and after a period of playing, I've got used to the mouse in the game then it's not the end of the world.

But I do find it strange that there is a problem at all with the mouse driver when not a lot else is happening on the screen.

Cheers, Rob.
