FL still CRASHES randomly *READ*

Hi,

I have tried and done almost all of the possible fixes here in the forum. Each new Fix would get me a little more playtime before the game would crash. Not to the Desktop or any Error Messages...just torn sound and frozen screens. Reboot necessary.

At first it happened right after the opening scene in the Manhatten Menu...then in the first mission etc.etc. until I installed XP SP1...now I get maybe 30min to 1 hour of playtime before the inevitable crash. i know this may sound like whining to some of you that cant play or hear the game at all...but maybe someone can help me.

Here is my PC Info:
AMD 1800XP
K7VTA3 rev.3.1 (newest 4in1 drivers)
512 PC-333 DDR-RAM
geforce 2 MX400 (41.09 Detonator)
Soundblaster Live5.1 (newest drivers)
Win XP woth SP1
DirectX 9

Thank You in advance to anyone that answers,

cya

How does it crash?

I have a GEForce 4200 and I get to play for a while and then when on a planet/station the screen corrupts badly. I hear the end of the sound if I am in a cut scene and then I can get control back and have to reboot.

I am using Detonator 41.09 drivers on Win2000

It crashes the same way...can be anywhere, space/combat/planet/ingame menu

screens corrupts...sound corrupts and hangs...lose control of keyboard & mouse...reboot...anger...rage...scream.

Have you tried reducing the DirectX Sound Acceleration to basic? That solved my problems. I made a post about it if you need the details.

I got similar problem. But with an interesting difference. My FL prefers to lock up when i'm in (especially the Equipmentdealer) Menue an scroll for example the Weapons up and down. Then game freezes and some seconds after sound hangs. No graphic-artifacts... nothing else. Only help is reboot, just like you.

I can't say what is the reason for the lock-ups. I can play hours, when i'm only flying around, make my missions, earn money, accept new missions and so on... but when i'm trying to sell commodities or go into the weapons screen, game locks up.

I got to say, that first time i tried the game, and installed a cracked full-version, i had problems with the font-sizes in the menues. The letters where little too big for there places/sentences. I had no problem with uplockin' at all....

Then i bought the game original, deleted the previous version and installed new original one, the font-sizes works correct but besides the game-crashing starts as described above. Mhmm... as i wrote the game crashes mostly in screens with scrolling tabs in use. But it does also in space... but not that often.

My system:
Win2k (latest Web-Updates installed...)
Athlon XP 1800+
Asus A7V266EX Via 4in1 Ver. 1445 and 1446 tried (Bios 1.0.1.1)
GeForce4 TI 4200 Detonator 43.00
Soundblaster Live! Player 1024 (latest Driver)

I tried most of the suggestions written in this forum, such as decreasing hardware-sound-acceleration (in the direct-x tab) I also tried this for the graphics-acceleration... Of course i reinstalled the complete Game also. I removed/reinstalled the fraunhofer-codecs...

Ok guys... when i find out something... i'll let you know!

I changed my resolution to 800 x 600 resolution from 1024x768.
I have had only 1 crash since and have actually made a lot of progress in the single player. This was a vast improvement over crashing regularly at 1024x768.
I have also turned off anti-aliasing.

I am using a nVidia GeForce ti with Detonator 41.09 drivers.

800x600 is not a huge difference. There is a small difference in space and then all the station/planetary scenes are a little jaggard.
