Need help with LAN

I need some help with LAN, here's the situation:

Me and my brother want to play via our LPT1 ports. This has never been a problem for us when it comes to playing LAN (save for rare cases). However, now we have a problem with Freelancer. You have to tie a computer up to run the server you're going to play on. Well, we only have two computers to begin with... and you can't have more than that when you're hooked up together with one LPT1 cable. So how are we supposed to play LAN? I tried starting my game up first, then starting the server exe. While both programs ran, and while my brother could see my server, I couldn't see my server in my game. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Also, maybe someone knows an answer to this while I'm at it. I can start Freelancer up once, but when I exit, the game won't start back up again until a reboot. Anyone know why this is and how to solve that?

LPT1 is not LAN. That's direct connect.
You need home network with hub for this.

I know the difference between direct connect and LAN, but we use "LAN Multiplayer" whenever we're playing multi over LPT1 (since there are no other practical options). Anyway, I solved my playing problem- works fine. But I still need help with the game not starting again after shutdown. I found out that in my Windows Task Manager (Win XP alt+ctl+del), under "Processes," that my freelancer.exe continues to run after game shutdown. It's not a big problem, I just end the task and I can play again. But it is annoying. Any thoughts as to why this happens?

@ Hawk: I have the same problem you had, I cannot find my own server. How did you solve this problem? I have win2k and no firewall installed. A answer would be nice, cause I tried several forums and I haven`t found a solution.
