Short lived?

I've been playing about a week now, I've got a Titan with level 10 sheild, 2 nomad cannons, 2 nomad blasters and 3 million credits with nothing to spend them on. I've explored all of the systems and visited pretty much every base. What else is there for me to do in the FL universe?

Perhaps there's some big thing I've been missing but it seems like I've spent all this time building up this craft and the best thing I can do with it is fly around places I've been 100 times trading the same items as ever.

Something odd strikes me about the FL universe, all day long ships carry cargo from one place to another, but that's all they do. You never see anyone in the FL universe actually enjoying themselves or talking about anything other than their cargo and where they're going with it, other than the pirates, who blow you up and don't even take your stuff.

The amount and scope of missions you can do is very limited: Shoot a group of ships, shoot a specific ship, shoot a ship and take its cargo (are we beginning to see a theme here?), or shoot a base... and the ships gaurding it.

I'd loved to have seen more variations in the missions, even Frontier has more interesting missions to do than Freelancer, It's most dissapointing

Things that should have been included to make it more interesting:

Ships with interstellar drive
Alien worlds that you could reach with interstellar drive
pilotable Large ships
Hot rods/custom builds
ships that require 2 or more human crew
More varied missions
Dynamic economy
NPC activity other than freight/bounty hunting (tourists, sports, celebrities, FUN)
ability to completley destroy NPC factions
something to spend your cash on
rank based on kills rather than wealth
PVP Kill completley destroys ship, if you have no money to buy another, game over.

if you're planning to mod the game maybe these are nice easy things to start with

I loved Freelancer until I got the best ship and the best guns, and explored everywhere. After that there just wasn't any reason to play it any more

Whatever. I like a lot of others here don't share your opinion. You registered just about a month ago, posted now 5 times, and now we're supposed to take your word as gospel? Are you just venting and this seems to be the logical place to do it? Okay, you've said your peace. Acknowldged. Still don't agree with you, but I can repsect the post above as being your opinion.

You know what Gibby, in the bigger scheme of things, we're going to have to endure the decenters, but that doesn't mean we have to take it lying down either. I can play nice and voice my opinions just like the rest of them. I have the same rights to contradict these opinions. So does everyone else. I've not gotten mean about it, not resorted to name calling, I've simply stated my opinion is just about the complete opposite. Maybe if we just keep doing that then we'll be fine?

Flame on?

ten98 is correct

once you are rich the game is stale in multiplayer.

we need something more to spend these millions of dollars on.

bases, large ass ships, friggin gigantic sun destroying cannon, or buy a faction to control. i dont care we need something.

if you disagree please make some intellegent counterpoints. don't just say "whatever"

there is no reasont to consider someones opinion if they don't give you a valid reason to.

Hey kakarot... did you used to play UO? :0)

I have seen post like this a few times Stinger, it is beginning to consern me..

i totally agree, the lack of things to acctualy do in multiplayer is a bit of a letdown. once you get so rich you can basically look around or blow things up.

personally i would of liked it more had it been a lot more faction base and much much harder. if anyone here has played doac that would of been an extremely cool way to do the mp in this game.

start with one of maybe 3 groups.
can't talk to other people if they are alined with an enemy group.
CANNOT raise your faction with the other groups.
money should be way harder to get, now it takes maybe 2 days to aquire enough money to buy the very best things.
and attacking the enemy bases acctually captures them. as it is now i could sit around killing everything in new york and an hour later nothing would be effected.
another cool thing would be if you captured say denver and you where alined with another group then the newyork system would no longer have materials from there. therefore capturing a place that build ships would greatly effect the economy

Stinger: You've stated your opinion is the complete opposite to what?

I'm glad you haven't resorted to name calling, although I have no idea why you would.

If you'd care to respond to any of the points I made then perhaps you might have an argument.

I don't see how the number of posts I've made to this forum relates to my ability to criticise the game.

I guess my two biggest problems with the multiplayer game are firstly that killing another player doesn't really do anything except empty their hold and put them back to the last base they landed at, so there's not really a lot of point in doing it other than to mildly annoy the person you're killing

Secondly theres nothing to do after you gain money and the best craft, which can take a just a few hours if you play well.

Up until I got the best ship it was very enjoyable, probably my favourite PC game of 02/03, but if that's how you "win" the victory felt very hollow indeed. If the game is to have any kind of long term appeal there is going to have to be more to it than there is at the moment.

Ten98 - Do you have a legal copy of Freelancer?!? I´m 99,9% sure, that you stole somebodies hard work, which you then find the guts to look down upon. I'm not calling you any name, but what kind of morals is that? I think FL has more depth than Unreal 2 and the SP element of for instance MOH:AA combined...

So please.... Go out buy the game, and then play some MP together with some friends, doing some missions, and showing each other stuff in the universe... Lot's of fun!

ten98 is right. And you can add storage and owning more than one ship to the list of things it needed to make MP worth it.

And for the fanboy: blow. Lets look at the game as it really is. Its a MMOG game that got nerfed to single player in order to cut the profit loss of a 5 year development time. After a certain point there is no reward for playing and that point can come in a matter of a few hours or if you take your time a week or two. I demand alot for the games I pay for (and can't return) and when a game fails to deliver I have every right to bitch about it in the face of any fan boy. Ive read the dev interviews and i know the "vision" of the devs who come off as a couple of lazy dip wads whose "vision" was that of making the game easy to design and collecting a paycheck in the process. Unfortunately, I read them AFTER I bought the game. Thats what riles me up. This game has/had so much potential its sickening. Now I can only do what the devs themselves suggested: wait for some great modder in the community to make the game better.

I mean, damn, ive seen other games and I know what people are capable of doing with code and these guys either refused to do it, arent skilled enough to do it, or had the wrong people producing the game and giving them direction. Or a combination of all the above. Frankly, I think thier vision was flawed: no storage, only one ship at a time, static economy....they tried to boost all these things as "features"--pathetic. And here is one for the fanboy: What is the point of hosting a persistent world server when you can max out your character in a matter of hours? Ok then you can explore, find all the jump holes.....explore the border worlds with monkeys and stuff. Whoopty! MP feels more like co-op single player without any soul. So, then what happens, you create another character and start over? I know what im going to do, im going to hunt down fanboys and grief them over and over.

oh well, this will keep me busy for a few weeks until Eve: The Second Genisis hits the stores and offers some MP that will be unparalled by anything on the market today (cuase EnB sucks).

I totally disagree whith everything you say Ten98, kakarot, twist, and of course rastafari. :p

I don't need to bring up any additional points to disagree with everything you say, you all do that quite nicely.

thats ok stinger,
nice cop out. Unfortunately it doesnt make a lick of sense. How can my own argument refute my points? oh please do tell. You don't respond becuase you have nothing valid to dispute our arguments with. The absolute best you can do is call someone a thief and accuse them of pirating the game; or, look at thier post count. All of which do nothing to refute our arguments. So: blow. heh

Post Wed Mar 05, 2003 5:45 pm

My responses make as much sense as everyone elses. I'm sorry I don't offer any tidbits for you to cut n shread, I just don't agree with you. Hard to fight a simple statement like that isn't it? Frustrating huh?

Post Wed Mar 05, 2003 5:58 pm

the only frustration i was having was trying to decipher your posts which may or may not have been in english. As for your opinion you are welcome to it; but, email me in two months and tell me if your still playing this game. Hey, you just might be, the saying goes: "simple minds enjoy simple things"

You can discuss the shortcomings of FL if you want, but keep it civil please. This thread is on probation
