setting up server

I have opend all the ports required in the documentation on the cd for servers. but either my firewall is way to strict or there is something i still need to open in the fire wall. anyone know if any ports where not listed in the documentation?

ports 2300-2400. But question...what firewall are you using and what sort of error messages are you getting (if any)?

I use Zone Alarm and in order for me to get connected to the internet I have to allow the executables server status within the firewall. Fail to do that and I become my own little Freelancer island so to speak.

Im not getting any errors. people can see my server but they dont get a ping from it and cant connect to it. Its a firewall built into my speedstream modem. also have those ports open.

some more questions

Can you connect to it via the internet not via LAN using the client software?
What is your internet speed?
What is the IP the server is showing? I'll do a tracer on it when I get home.
Have you tried forcing a port configuration isntead of letting the server do it?
Check to make sure you made the server accessable to the internet when you start your server. (not sure how this works, never really tested it to be honest).

Im using dsl. speedstream finaly replied and said its the way the firewall is setup. even forwarding the ports wont work according to speedstream. looking into getting a different router/firewall. might be the only way for me to do it.

Sounds like ICMP might be getting blocked by your firewall, UDP traffic is flowing but ICMP reply isn't working ..

Well if you your firewall is bult into your modem see if their any documetation on setting your firewall config's and this goes the same for router's also. It all depends on who makes the firewall if its software then adjust the settings but a hardware one its mainly depend's on your config with the router. So get with the manufacture's info and go from their! Also make sure you have a global Ip also due to that can cause problems and the best place to make sure you have that is to contact your ISP because they control that becasue some of them issue out private which can cause some issue's. But when all said and done all depend's on how thing's are configured!

Ip currently 192.168.254.42.

Post Wed Feb 26, 2003 10:45 pm

That is your internal (LAN) IP address, what is the external (WAN) IP address?

Post Wed Feb 26, 2003 11:18 pm

my bad copied and pastwed wrong feild there.

WAN IP: 64.169.130.238

Post Wed Feb 26, 2003 11:29 pm

I can ping 64.169.130.238

I'm doing a UDP port scan and will post my results.. ofcourse this is assuming your server is up and the IP hasn't changed

takes a moment..

Since we're on the topic, does your firewall let you specify the protocol of the ports it's forwarding?

The game listens on UDP 2302 by default, and I know it probably has some others that are UDP and TCP, so to be safe you want to make sure you will want to make sure you have allowed both.

Post Wed Feb 26, 2003 11:36 pm

I scanned 2300-2400 both UDP and TCP on your IP and got no open ports, so either A) your server isn't up or your firewall isn't forwarding those ports

yes have bothe sets open and server is up.
