Multiplayer Hidden Items

From what I have gathered, there are numerous items in the FL universe that are hard to find or hidden. I was wondering if when someone finds these items in a persistent universe, are they gone forever and only usable by the person who picked it up? For example there is only one Class 10 Super Gun found on a disabled battleship floating through system X. I go to system X and get this Class 10 Super Gun. Its then mine and mine only right? No one else can recover another one?

This is a good question. One that we should experiment with for sure. If I were to guess, I'd say the items regerate when the server is rebooted, but other than that, it's an unknown what triggers the regen. Sounds like a good project for people to figure out.

it would be so much better if the item positions were dynamic, it would make the whole universe much more replayable, but i guess when it comes right down to it people will just trade to get the items they want, like in Diablo 2

I really hope that items do regen over a certain amount of time, or i guess if the server is rebooted. Can someone with the pr build check this out? Maybe someone who has been on elite recently?

I do know that items regenerate, but what has to happen to trigger this is really an unknown. I've seen when I dock they regen, but not all the time. I know that if the server is rebooted, everything regens right away. Sometimes in MP if everyone in a particular system docks, then they regen..but not all the time.

The mystery will continue until we can test all the possibilites. Any takers on this? We could do it with a password protected server to ensure testing is not tainted. Might be a good project to hammer out b4 game goes retail.

I could set up TLR server for testing one day we can all agree on.

Id be willing to give it a try. I already have a decent character on that server.

I was going through the Omicron systems earlier on Elite, and I found a couple abandoned freighters and bounty hunter ships that had clearly been looted by other players before, and shooting them didn't make them drop any items. I really hope that regeneration is in and doesn't require the server to be restarted, because I've found some pretty cool stuff on abandoned ships before.

I remember from JumpGate that any rare artifacts you found would respawn elsewhere in the system you were in...maybe FL works in a similar way.

I was cruising around Omicron and nearby systems last night and came upon a wreck called Vengeance or something. Shot it, but it had nothing. This morning I went back while the server was empty and it had it's loot; searched around the systems a little more and found two others, both of which had their loot.

I checked again about three hours later and none of them had respawned. So, my guess is that the unique items (ie: level 10 weapons) spawn every 12 or 24 hours. The non-unique ones like Corsairs or Bountry Hunters probably spawn more rapidly.

This actually brings up a great point that could lead to a reason for a reboot of the server. Someone was probably still on and the 2 of you never landed at the same time. That's why they didn't regen after you went back. That being said, then a reboot of the server would force the issue. If a server is rebooted you don't lose anything you've gained up to that point, in fact you can log back in at the same point (even in space).

HHMMMMMmmmm!
