Good idea guys. However, me and a few of my mates are planning to form a mercenary group to help defend against these pirate scum! hehe

I already started work on the site for it. If any of you are interested then check it out http://r-r.vze.com

I think it's a great idea. I don't usually side with the bad guys, but having someone to fight, fear, would be great.

You underestimate pirates my friends. We are united and strong. Don't brush off pirates like some backwater rednecks. There are still pirates in the carribean to this day. Not armed with cutlasses and rum, but million dollar boats and sophisticated radar/sonar jamming equipment. We will be strong and we will become the most single powerful omnipotent being of this universe. We will be around waiting stalking everyone who dares upstart. We are waiting for you foolish bounty hunters! MUAHAHAHHAHHAHA

hmmm pirates well just dont try and jack my load or my merc escort will have to perform some surgery on the hulls of your ships (assuming my turrets dont rip u to bits first).....

although if i paid you a bribe to go bother someone else we could avoid the messy uncertain and costly business of space combat methinks ...

Remember Pirates are still businessmen. They just have a unique aproaches. We take bribes and accept cash only!

Probably pirates' and mercenaries' numbers will balance over the time becoz everyone wants the challenge.. So if your fed up having so weak and few pirates to fight against, just join their group (and the other way round of course).

Just a quick question....I know you can shoot trade lanes to make ships drop out of em and attack em but how do u know if a ship is IN a trade lane? Is there some sort of visuial effect or sound? Or is it a case of shoot the lane and hope for the best?

Post Thu Feb 20, 2003 3:39 pm

Basically it's just a game of patience, keeping the trade lane down until you die or get bored of pirating. If you have quick eyes, you can see ships zooming towards/by you in a lane but by that time it's pretty much too late to take the lane down if it's still up because of the immense speed they travel at.

If you have a large amount of people, you could easily organize a few different groups to each hit a popular trade lane (really, you only need two people for one ring -- one to make sure the lane stays down and one to pick off the computer's ships. Both of you together to take out players); or if you're feeling mean, camp all the trade lanes around an important trade spot like Manhatten and pillage everyone.

Y'all could be *really* twisted and set up camp in consecutive rings; take down 3 or 4 of them in a row. The mercs fight off the first group and head for the next lane jump, only to find out that it's down, or they actually jump and get taken down by the next one.

I think I'd pay to see that
