Technilogically speaking, that's impossible Lance. Sorry. It's all about the packets and how theiy handled.

Why would that be technically impossible?

Is the player info not saved server-side? (Which I hope they are saved server side - can you say edited character info?)

If it's saved on the server's harddrive, I don't see why it couldn't be combined with another's. If it's encoded or something, it's all just a matter of time before it is decoded.

It won't work because it was tried by two very capable MP testers ...exactly like you described. And it didn't work. Unless something highly unlikely and highly unusual changes in the retail version, this is out. Sorry, it was a grand idea. We tried a lot of things along this same mindset. There were some really talented testers that knew their stuff when it came to digging into the files of Freelancer.

We figured the problem had to do with CD codes since it really made the software unstable.

Small change of topic here...In a MP game how do you know where everyone else is? Do you get a message informing you of which people are in your current system/sector/server?

Yes, system location is revealed for each player in the chat function of FL.

Yup just the system is listed,

Their exact location is listed on your nav map by a ship icon, but only if you are in the same group.

Other wise they will just show up on your scanner when you are within about 8K of their location
