Persistent game world?

I want to run a LAN server for my college dorm, but it apears that if i turn off the server program, everyting is lost and we have to start over. Is there any way to have a persistent saved grameword that i can turn on and off? (i cannae leave my poor computer on all the time.)

huh? what's not persistent about it? the only things that reset are depots with loot in them and ship wrecks - these things are designed for large internet servers to let noobies level up and get a little scratch, with just a LAN party you could outfit everybody with them.....

basically no, there's no existing way to save the persistent aspects of the game, the only things that are saved are account details - with the right knowledge perhaps flserver's memory could be dumped to a file and reloaded later.....

why can't you leave your computer on all the time? i do - i reset after installing software and what not, but besides that and hardware upgrades its very rare with XP =)

Account details? Okay i'm lost. So if i make a server called pizza, make a character named jack on it, play around, save, then turn off the server app, can i still access jack? if so how?

you...uh....log.....in......

account details are:
where you've been/ what you know
your ship
your equipment
your money
voice
costume
base you're at
ship health
ship-component health
your weapon-groups settings

character files (.fl) are stored in account-folders which look something like "23-765b873e", and that's in your "my games/freelancer/multiplayer/accts" folder. the only thing that's persistent is what the game records to your character files.
