i cant connect to fl servers -.- i get the list and eventuly the ping of every server, but when i click to connect to one it says the server might have gone offline or that i have a bad internet connection..im running vista, tried to open port 2300-2304 disabled tcp/ipv6 protocols, run exe as admin, connect to server via exe. also i can set up a lan server on my comp and my bro can play on it on his comp both over internet and lan on the same network as im running so i figuer its something with my vista cuz ive played on this comp when i had xp on it...any idea how to fix it?

Hey, I'm JonJones, and every time I try to connect to a server, it says, 'I'm sorry, but a connection could not be established. This is usually caused by the server going down. It could also be caused by having no internet connection', or something! This happens...EVERY, SINGLE, FREAKING TIME!! Please, help me? I really wanna play multiplayer!

I have major lag issues on online servers. I can usually connect to servers, it shows them with pings less than 40. Often when i'm leaving a station or landing i get a message saying the operation is taking longer than expected. If i try a mission the ships don't take damage when i shoot them and they eventually dissapear into the horizon and i'm getting shot at by invisible ships.

I tried the game with firewalls off etc but still the same problems. Anyone have any ideas?

I have the same problem as this person

I've been trying to play a LAN game with a friend of mine who is home for the week. I don't need to set up an internet game. BUT I haven't been able to get ANY type of game to work LAN or otherwise. I have the 1.1 patch and NO mods. I've spent the last 5 hours going crazy trying to get this to work. I've read all of the information I could find on the forums and none of it has solved my issue. I launch the FLServer.exe, tell it to not allow an internet game (although I've tried it both ways) and then launch Freelancer, and try to connect to a multiplayer game. My server has never showed up under either internet or LAN. At first I could see other servers, but now I can't connect to the Global Server for some reason so I don't see anything. I have my router set to DMZ my tower's IP and I have UDP and TCP ports 2299- 2305 forwarded. I've also made sure that Windows Firewall isn't blocking traffic. I even disabled it and tried everything again but it still doesn't work. I've tried using IONCROSS mk.V and FLSM Server/Client. I've also tried having Freelancer directly connect to my server's IP using the -s<ip>:<port>. Does it matter that I am using my local IP 192.168.1.104? Is there anything I'm missing?

Ill add a bit more though. When people looks at my game, it says the server is 1.00
However my game is version 2.7. I also have problems joining games. When i join, it will freeze at the loading screen, then go to the desktop, then crash. Note that my problem is the same as the person that i copied.

You have some strange things happening.
First I have to ask do you have a network card installed, either on one of your motherboard slots or built into the motherboard ?

Second why are you using the 1.1 patch ? You don't need to use the 1.1 patch. For me it caused problems instead of doing anything good.

Third with an IP of 192.168.1.104 you must be using a router, correct ?
Have you configured your router ?

Your game version is 2.7 and you say no Mod's... To have a game version of 2.7 you had to of had a Mod change the version number...

I suggest you check out The Complete Guide to Setting Up an FL Server

And http://www.dnsstuff.com/

Then I suggest you do a clean install of Freelancer
delete your Freelancer folder located at
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer
- don't uninstall Freelancer, just delete your Freelancer folder so that you can be sure that no files get left behind by doing an uninstall.

And your saved games folder
C:\Documents and Settings\your name\My Documents\My Games\Freelancer\Accts
Both the Singleplayer and Multiplayer folders are sub folders in the Accts folder.

then install Freelancer again
don't install the 1.1 patch
but instead install the Freelancer QuickFix-v1.0c patch

Everyone connecting to the LAN must have the same files so they need to do the same thing... A clean install of Freelancer - and no saved games
and then install the Quickfix patch.

If you want to use a Mod activate the Mod after you do everything listed above.

Hi guys, Hope you can help. I'm running vista. No i dont want to remove it lol.
Ok now I seem to be having the same problem as bresch. Yes the issue seems to be with Vista. No unchecking tcp/ip ver 6 dosn't help, admin and compatability (winxp) dosn't help. Fl is in my exeptions list (both client and server) I am running 2 computers into a router then through router to the modem. My 2nd computer is running XP home sp2 and can connect fine. so unlikely to be a router issue. If anyone has multiplayer working under vista can you please post if you needed to take any steps or if it just worked then your configuration (i.e 1 computer to modem etc,) Sorry for the long post If anyone needs more info to try to help please ask.

Thanks

I also am having this same problem with freelancer(i.e. cannot join server). I also have windows vista and had been playing freelancer MP for about two months. I was forced to system restore after a virus(added security my buttocks) found its way into my pc, and after that freelancer was unable to connect to the multiplayer servers, giving me the same message "cannot connect the sever may be down or you may have internet connection issues" both of which are false! Seeing as freelancer MP worked before the system restore I don't think it was a Vista related issue, but also cannot figure it out for the life of me. Is there anyone out there who can find me a solution to the problem I really wanna get back to multiplayer gaming. Oh yeah as an after note I can play all the SP I want.

Walks away with head hung low.

Hmm... I suppose a small intro shouldn't hurt...

Hi, I'm Final.Nightmare, among other things, I've got a tiny little issue, anyone ever heard of listserver? Whenever I create a server I look at consol veiw and all I get is
connecting to listserver...
Failed to connect
connecting to listserver...
Failed to connect

Sort of thing... any ideas?

Um, what's a global server then? I thought that was just for the internet. I'm only running LAN and thought that wouldn't matter...

Oh, and all the ports are open, all the exceptions listed, I checked, double checked, reinstalled the game then checked again.

But wait, I have this little connection thing, I don't know what it is, but sometimes my computer thinks it's on the internet, do you think that's messing with it?

(You'll have to excuse the computer illiterateness...)

Just wondering but do you start flserver.exe and fill out the information needed to connect to your server ???
Just double click on flserver.exe and it will start.

If you don't know where flserver.exe is
it's in the Freelancer EXE folder
located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE

Post Tue Jul 17, 2007 3:46 am

Right... so I click on Flserver.exe in the program files after reading the last post, and hey, it finally connects to the "listserver", but when I turn the internet off, it fails to connect again...

I'm fairly sure you can play a freelancer LAN game without the internet on, and as I'm on dial up I'll have to... what am I doing wrong?

Post Wed Jul 18, 2007 4:01 am

Final,
I was able to get it running, not sure about 3rd party software, all i did was turn off tcp/ip6 (leave 4 on), turned my firewall off, added freelancer.exe and flserver.exe to exceptions list ostart flserver, start fl, go to multiplayer, lan . it should appear there. if you need specifics on how to do any of the above just post and i will explain

Post Wed Jul 18, 2007 5:05 pm

VISTA users. I have read that if you uninstall your virus protection that you will be able to connect to multiplayer servers. I have tried this with no success(avg). But might be worth trying. If you have any luck please post your results here. Perhaps if it worked for this guy, he said he used norton. Maybe Vista alters a setting on instillation of norton because norton has it the same setting, (ie either way it stops connection) but once you remove norton windows fails to reload it on its side, leaving your computer withought whatever the blockage is. Just a guess but worth checking out
