Idea for a really cool server.

maybe this exists already, but if not, it'd be nice if someone would start it.


Basically, it would be a Role-Play server, but instead of having different tags (eg. [PIR = Pirate) everyone would have to join a faction. Members of a faction could only fly that faction's ships and use that faction's weapons. This would make gameplay alot more varied, as you could have Corsairs Vs Outcast in Omicrons all the way down the Liberty Navy Vs Rouges. In this format, the only Factions able to have VHFs would be: Zoners, GMG, Outcasts, Corsairs, Hessians, BHG. Common ships like the Stiletto would be shared amongst factions.

Anyone like the idea?

In theory that would be lots of fun, it would capture the spirit of FL perfectly, but wouldnt you get most of the players on the server going either outcast or corsair etc?

Rhienland navy doesn't exist. Rheinland navy on the other hand does.

Maybe a system where your're automatically assigned to one of these factions, depending on how many members each has:

Outcasts
Corsairs
GMG
BHG
Hessians

If you select the "Best Factions" button. You could also select any other faction simply by adding a tag to your name.

The idea would be to have lots of groups, eg Rheinland (there you go DSQrn) against Bundsuch or Unioners, Dragons vs Kusari Navy, etc.

You factions' alliegance would be determined by the allies and enemies list for each faction.

Just for a taster:

Corsairs

Ships: Legionaire, Centurion, Titan, Mule

Allies: none

Enemies:

House Security
All Independent Organizations (except Zoners)
Farmers' Alliance
LWB
Mollys
Outcasts
Red Hessians
Unioners
Xenos


So while the Corsairs are the only ones with the Tizona Del Cid, they have aloost everyone as enemies. Heres an alternative:

Bundschuh

Ships: Dagger, Stiletto
Weapon: Sunslayer Torpedo (they are the only ones who can buy this)

Allies: none

Enemies: Rheinland Security
Bounty Hunters' Guild
Daumann Heavy Construction
Gas Miners' Guild
Kruger Minerals
Xenos


So the Bundusch have alot less enemies, as well as the Sunslayer Torp.

Freeports would of course be neutral to all.

Zoners would be the Admins.

I like this idea. It's similar to the Level 2 RPG rules as far as enemies and ships go, but this is more detailed as far as equipment and specific conflicts go.

If someone wants to suggest an empty MP server (plenty out there we can use) and set this up I'd be game.

Are you talking about all this as RPG rules or to be built into a mod? Some stuff can be placed into a mod like buying certain equipment only if you are real friendly with the faction that sells it but even that is no garauntee. Or can you keep faction reps fixed in the game? It would be something applying to everyone I believe. Other things could really only be enforced by rules which may be difficult especially if the rules are profuse and complicated.

One thing that make it real difficult is when high level ships encounter low level ships a faction is "forced" to fly. So an Outcast or Corsair in their level 10 ships taking on the best the Liberty Navy has to offer (level 4 Defenders) is no fight at all. One way to deal with that is no level 10 ships are allowed to any RPGers.

On Boston we have an opt-in system of RPG. Place the RPG tag in your name otherwise the RPG rules do not apply to you and you become a Freelancer. We have only six basic classes basically because of the same issue {MN} Admiral Nazbit raised so we tried to balance things among them to make them appealing to all. There still are more Mercenaries than Escorters but the more challenging server-side mod is helping recitify that somewhat. We do insist on specific ships for each RPG class and allow peer pressure to ensure everyone conforms. Every RPG class (Pirate, Mercenary, Military, Police, Trader and Escorter) has as it's best a level 7 to level 9 ship they can fly, no level 10 ships allowed. This is important for game balance. Freelancers of course can have what they want in ships and who to attack and are only bound by the server rules.

The RPG rules are the hardest to make up and there is a wide, shadowy line between too much and too little, too simple and too complicated. Our RPG rules are the result of much community involvement. It's important it's not too much or too complicated because it really should be intuitive. I also haven't forgot the name of the game IS called Freelancer and you should have the option to be what you want to be.

Sounds interesting but the factions with the VHF would own everyone else on the map...

I was thinking a mod, it would be easier to enforce than just rules.

Built into the mod would be a rule that ships over certain levels (say the four VHFs) would not be allowed in house systems. But players would be allowed multiple characters, so they could use a Stiletto to get into Rheinland, and Daggers for Liberty



Ships could also be added (maybe) so other factions would have VHFs. Also, if an earlier post was read, Class 10 Weapons would be banned (except maybe for admins)

Ships i would like to be added:

Liberty, Bretonia, Kusari and Rheinalnd VHFs.
Corsair Freighter (under my current system they only have the Mule)
CSV and Heavy CSV
Battleships - 100-400 Mil Credits (money paid to admins, and then battleships given, you cant buy it at a shop)
Nomad Fighter? for Nomad Clan? (possibiltiy)
Transport (only available to corporations) 15 Mil Credits


Which systems ships are allowed in:

Level 26+: Omicrons, Omega 41, 11, 5, Sigma 17, 19, Tau 37
Level 20-24: All of the above and Rheinland, Omega 3, 7, Sigma 13, Tau 23, Hudson, Bering
Level 10-13: All of the above and Kusari, Tau 29, 31, Kepler, Galileo.
Wolfhound, Legionaire, Cavalier, Crusader, Clysedale, Startracker: All of the above and Bretonia, Magellan, Cortez.
Everything else: You can go anywhere!



If anyone wants details of a paticular faction's ships, allies.enemies etc, just ask.

theres a server like that somewhere, i think its Liberty vs Rheinland, with only a few systems, and loads of NPCs

I understand that it may be 'cool' to fly only a faction's ship, but it would help if people realised RPing wasn't about being a faction and killing ennemies of the faction. =/
