Multiplayer crash -- Not related to mods.
I can run multiplayer just fine but a friend of mine has been trying to run Freelancer MP to no avail. I'm posting here because I can't help him, I don't really know what to suggest because I don't see the problem on my machine and when I can't see a problem, I can't troubleshoot it. So I'm hoping perhaps someone else has seen this and knows how to fix it. Basically he crashes whilst connecting or after a five/ten minute amount in space. He has a router but I told him to open port 1029 (which seems to be the Freelancer port according to my firewall and netstat) and that didn't help. I even had him delete the Freelancer folder and install fresh from the CD but we're seeing the same instance. It doesn't make for a fun online session when one is going up against Rheinland assassins and one's support suddenly drops out. ^.^;; So, if anyone has any ideas... ?
I did do a lot of research on the internet and these forums but the answers all seemed to be related to mods, as I said, there are no mods. We've tried a fresh install and a fresh install with the official 1.1 patch and every time the result is the same. So I'm out of ideas.
-Edit-
Also, there is no crash warning. There's no fault dialog and it's instantaneous. It is simply as if the game had been alt+F4'd. It's an immediate stop, no warning, simply the task disappears and he's dumped back to the desktop.
-Edit-
Oh, one other thing, we did find the note about virus scanners but as he doesn't run a Terminate and Stay Resident scanner (he uses an on-demand scan), that's not an issue, so there are no virus scanners in memory. A task list can be provided if it helps.
