some servers only run the stock version of the game, and so using a mod could lag the hell out of it, or cause it to crash altogether, not to mention pi**ing off a whole bunch of people.

People enjoy playing the game, but when the game is unfairly tilted in YOUR direction against thiers it is NOT fair. Furthermore, those that do cheat often are bullies with insecurities, and so they spend hours whiling the time away by shooting newbies (mainly at manhatten when they first launch) for MANY hours. Not just once, but many many times until the servers are filled with the most colourful language possible.

Imagine this:

You log onto a server where you have characters on, but everytime you launch........you die. NOw imagine that this is your favourite server with alot of poeple on it....so you don't want to go elsewhere. Now imagine the fustration to find that the person doing this is doing it for about 3 weeks straight.........so you never really get to play.

Its easy to be flippent and say "go elsewhere" but would you really want to? And also - why the heck should they?

and also, imagine using the destructible universe mod. In MP things dont respawn. so, you shoot and kill a base, not only can peopl not DOCK there enymore, people cannot LAUNCH from the base because there is no spawn anchor. same with docking rings and mooring fixtures. they stuf dosent appear again until the server reboots, not very fun if ur in a starflier and another guy in a titan, nomad cannons, cannonballs, firestalkers, and 6000 Sunslayers goes around and destroys every single base in the game is it?

in short it is just plain CHEATING and the lag issues caused by many mods are crippling
bottom line its the admin that makes the rules !

It's really quite simple. Mods have their own servers. I you wish to play TNG 1.7, for example, find a server that supports TNG 1.7. This is true with any mod out there. If you have a mod installed on your system, and go to a server which isn't supporting that mod, you'll crash it, and get many people unhappy. Find the mod you like, then find the server which supports it. It's not that tough to figure out.
