LAN server?

Hey all!

Is it possible to run Freelancer on a LAN without connecting to the internet?
When I run the server it tries to connect to the internet so I guess it's not possible.

It is possible, if your server does not reach the Internet then it will not be included in the Global Multiplayer Server List. But since you want to run it on LAN then it's not a problem. And... btw RTFM !!!

mhm, OK I guess I'm doing something else wrong then.
Yeah I'll RTFM when I get it from my friend. I've borrowed the game from him.
Or when I buy the game myself, which I'll have to do anyway if I wan't to play it on a LAN.

When I start a server and then start the game my server is not on the server list so I thought you needed some kind of internet connection even if you play LAN.

But I guess I'll just check the manual (can't find anything in the readme) and see what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks

OK, just buy the software it's better. Untill then, when you launch FL client choose Multiplayer and when asked to choose between Internet and LAN choose LAN, then in a couple of seconds your server should show up in the list. If this doesn't work try the -s parameter (see readme.rtf/page 3/lines 45-46 on the CD) as a workaround. If not even works then it means your server isn't working right. To make sure your server is up'n working try doing the following procedure:
1. Start a DOS prompt
2. Type netstat -an (shows listening ports for TCP/UDP)
3. In the list displayed you should fine a line similar to this:
" UDP 10.11.0.177:2302 *:*"
where 2302 is the port you chose to run FLServer on (for details on chosing the port of the server please refer to the readme.htm on the CD)

If no such line is present then this means the server failed to bind it'self to any port or IP address.

The previous procedure is supplied presuming you have MS Windows 2K/XP/2K3, if not use some other util to tell you which UDP ports your computer listens on.

Hope this helps,

Thank you!

I didn't think adding the server manually would make any difference, but it did.
I logged on and it works perfect.

Let us hope I'll get some friends together to play some time.
