From one that Knows how it works.

This requires about 5 to 15 mins work.

1 the admin using IFSO finds your old account you cant access and gets the folder name from the location then closes the server.
2. He then moves your old characters Folder out of the mulitplayer folder in my docs to a safe place.
3. then he restarts the server you join and make the same Named characters, EXACTLY the same you have a crappy ascii name you have to have it exact. Then you leave the server.
4. He then finds the new folder and deletes each .FL file in there but NOT the name file, then finally moves the FL files from your backedup folder in to the new folder but not the named file.

or just copy the characters into the new folder that's created each time a new person logs on...

In the FLServer window Go To the EDIT menu and click on ACCOUNTS

Scroll down till you find the player name in question and make note of the account number above it.

Enter this via the start menu in MP ID and then you can get your MP player files back. This also works for multipule Computers.

MN, have you actually tried that? If you notice from the first post the IDs in flserver and the one required for FL client are different lengths. In my experience once a FL client looses his FL MP ID, he's lost it for good. Only Pinger's posted solution keeps everything clean in flserver account list and in any admin tools.

The only way to get the MP ID is from your registry. And by formattign you lost it. Because it can be found in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\1.0
Too bad so sad.

the full id code is not stored on the server, but if you contact the admin, i`m sure they can help, as i`ve done it many times for those that have had to reinstall, i think i got it down to about 3 min per account transfer now, without closing,

hmm yeah 3 mins if:

If the player remebered to install DX9b
If the player remembered to make a quick start lan Icon for the server, so can find it quickly
If they follow the instructions: Join / create each character with the exact same names / leave the server, not pm you in irc after each is made checking they got the spelling right

So I allow 10-15 mins for each player I do this for

nah, its easy,

1. i close flso and run Cryo`s flstat,
2. open what it generates, and view as source,
3. find on page (player name) to get there 2 id`s, (player folder, and player file)
4. use search, (from the start menu) find file or folder, (first group of numbers, the one that does NOT end .fl )

i then copy there player files into what ever there new player name folder is (found in the same maner) ok maybe it takes 4 mins, but theres no need to close the server while doing it, but i do prefer to do it when the server is quite, ie, stupid O.clock in the morning.

this all works provided that they spell there player names corectly, as pinger previously stated,

i used to use this method to joyride in players ships, (just to check them out)in the days pre ioncross flso
