Backing up the save files (M/play server)

Can I put my save file on disk and format my HD then reload the game, and putback my save file?

Or does the game generate completely NEW random number for your profile?

I am well into a multiplayer game of Rebalance 3.11 with my friends (I am the server) and my Torpedo destroyer is STUCK inside the docking port of Ogashawa Gas Mining station. I have tried blowing up the station but it doesnt! I have tried docking and leaving again, I have tried waiting for another ship to enter my docking bay then fly out manually. I cant even use my millions to buy another ship.

I assume all these questions relate to MP only. The FL server ID seems to be in accounts.cfg. This file is used to "unlock" the saved game files so a past player can log back on with his own FL MP ID and play his saved characters. If you are moving or wiping&reinstalling (like I did this weekend) save everything in the directory My Documents/My Games/Freelancer/Accounts/Multiplayer. This includes account.cfg and flserver.cfg in the Multiplayer directory.

Yes, if you reinstall FL server it will generate a new accounts.cfg file. If you reinstall FL client I have heard yes and no about generating a FL MP ID that is the same as the one generated before. To be sure on your FL client machine I would save (print!) the FL MP ID. On the server you should make regular backups of the Multiplayer directory and thus accounts.cfg is saved as well.

Your dilemma is humorous but relatively simple to fix if you are willing. FLSO would make it real easy (any saved FL game file editor will suffice but only if you know what you are doing). OK, install FLSO, edit your character's file and set his location in some other location. If you didn't have access to the server it would be more difficult to do as you must have access to the saved FL game file.

Thankyou for taking the time to help me Earendil. Im not sure what FLSO is but I will have a look through downloads...it sounds JUST what I need. Cheers my friend.

I think JoeBoomz, the author of FLSO (Freelancer Server Operator), is now calling it IFSO (Ioncross Freelancer Server Operator). I'm sure you can get it on this website, TLR or on JoeBoomz' own website at www.ioncross.com.

..is now? It was ALWAYS called IFSO I think Pinger started the FLSO thing. That, or FiiK did. Doesn't matter to me

I think the misconception started by the executable name being FLServerOperator.exe. Oh well, live and learn. Maybe I'll just rename the next executable to IFSO.exe. That would sort things out, now wouldn't it?

But if you reformat and dont save account.cfg, does this might mean you will have to create new MP character??

@leonhart if its your server you are backing up then yes as it will have a different code so any player accounts that played on it before wont have the same so wont beable to find there old accounts again, that why you backup the Complete folder

But if its just your online player access then Make sure you BACKUP your onlineID to find it double click myflaccountid.hta in the FL exe folder, you then enter that code when first playing online again after a fresh install of FL

Yes but I did not save old ID number , is there a way it can be found? Like in character accounts or something?

If you didn't save your old ID number, otherwise known as your FL MP ID and displayed through the shortcut called "Examine My Account ID", you are out of luck. The numbers sysadmins have in their servers are partial numbers and are a smaller, unrecognizable account ID in relation to the FL MP ID. Time to start over on all those servers and remember to hit that shortcut above and print it out next time!
