Most annoying thing on Mp (in my opinion)

The most annoying thing I have ever found on mp is a condition I call "arrogant newb-modder syndrome" it basically consists of a newb who is so used to modding that all he does is mod on mp and generally ruin the game for everyone with his uber weapons and hull

The most aggravating situation is when the aforementioned newb decides to start attacking anyone on sight
needless to say dying to a cloaked newb 12 times in a row while trying to get out of a base is not fun so I would say we should discourage this type of behavior

if someone cannot play without modding on an un-modded server than they should simply choose to play somwhere else, not to ruin another player's time on freelancer with aggravating trashtalking and taunting because they can kill someone who plays fairly

yes I know i'm ranting but players should have enough honor to abide by a servers rules

for all you honest modders out there I'm not criticising mods but in my opinion they should not be used unless the server approves the mod being used

to those players who can and do play honorably I salute you please encourage those around you to abide by their server's rules

Part of that is the server as well. Although a persistant cheater (read as modder on a server that allows modding, cheating if the server does NOT allow modding) may make things messy, the server should have something or somebody in place to deal with this. Most do but some don't. Although it's obvious what a sysadmin and server police can do, player's can help out as well. I know on Elite, on my own server and on other's Cheater's Alliances are formed. This is where every in-game anomosity is immediately dropped to "chase" the cheater off the server. I know when I was on Elite back in the days of NEO-RN-NoTec-DG-WP-LIB-SE and other wars, it was amazing to see NEO alongside WP to chase, harrass or generally gather evidence on the cheater. Hehe, later? Stinger did the rest by banning the offending cheat.

There is always bad with the good. But in this case we used the bad to unite the good.

As the main Admin for a server I notice one thing alot. A lot of People don't tell me of this happening. So have You told your server admin about it?

What the admin will need:

- a screen shot of the player list in that system
- ideally a SShot of them doing something
- SShot of your target list on launching, shows who is close to you

So Help your self by helping your Server Admin.

N.B. compress the BMP's don't send BMP in emails, change them to JPG's or GIF's

exactly, if u dont inform us or the admin of the cheats/modders, because we cant be everywhere at once, how are we supposed to know, we even offer a 150k bounty for a screenie, tho i dont think i have paid a single modders bounty as of yet

sorry to butt in, but do you mean to say that one can actually hunt down and collect a bounty on a cheater?

Front, bow! Back, stern! Better get it right squirt, cuz' if ya don't I'll throw yer a$$ out the little round window in the side!

on my server, all it takes is a screen shot, of either modded equip, or a admittance, eg " come to buffalo i have a really cool beam mod." and yes it has happened, although a combi of the patch and flso (cheers joe) kicked and banned him b4 i could get to him but if i had recieved a screenie of him, i would have paid out 150k

@UK server - Hehe! Never thought of that, a bounty for cheaters. I think it's something I should implement. Incentives to catch cheaters is a good idea.

I am randomness incarnate

Post Thu Dec 18, 2003 8:25 pm

no not all noobs are modders, but the ones that are can seriously effect how the game runs, and stabilty,

Earendil, glad i could help.

Maybe not n00bs to FL but n00bs to the server. I have found in my list of nearly ~80 characters banned, all but two had played less than 30 minutes, the vast majority of those hadn't even undocked! The two left had nearly 10 hours each in and it seemed they just decided to cheat. Go figure. When I do find the occassional banned player with lots of play time, I find them or they find me and we discuss what happened. It is either due to lag or "I made a mistake and left a mod on, I apologize and will try harder to not let it happen again". Either excuse is good enough for me. Of course two strikes and your out. As I put into another post: fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

I am interested in forming a clan based around getting bounties for cheaters is there a way you could post in the forum who is suspected and we could check it out. by following them ingame or something. I heard of one other group that does something like this but there german and on a different time zone and the other side of the world there gamma1.

if i suspect them, i check them out with flso, and ban them, i also have player chars that are unknown to players, as my main cars are mostly known, but if they try to avoid my server police, i ban them anyway, the inocent usually e-mail me asking why, in this case i check them out thoroughly, and unban as necessary.

man its hard to type when drunk

@serious_snipa- i had the same idea, sortof like a private investigator thing, if the admin has a suspicion that a player is cheating, they tell a tracker to go and look into it, and after a bit, they report back.

The sad fact is,, that its great sites like lancers reactor that follow a game closly and passionatly that perpetrate the cheat problem, this isnt meant as a detremental comment on TLR or any other fan site, in a similar situation, its a simple fact of gaming trends, information tech and sloppy code.
Consider this question !!!(dont take this personel TLR)
How many cheats and client mods would be available for starlancer and freelancer without the TLR website and the information it provides for that genre/group and its modding communitys?.
Dont get me wrong im an avid modder of any engine i can get a look at, and no doubt some discoverys i have made, have helped others to cheat and manipulate game code to their advantage, but complaining about cheats and other modifications, on a site that openly supports game modifications, is pointless.
The only way to reduce cheating is to close all support possible for game modification at a developer level, before the game is released.

@crazed its not the modders that cause the most hassle its those that use trainers or the more inteligent ones that can use a memory editor. Those cause me the most hassle as modders can be spotted 70% of the time. But trainer users are a lot harder to spot. Usually its a bit of luck and gut instinct to catch them. But once caught they usually swear blind there sweeter than sweet, as most admins and deputies dont have the access required to see the results of them cheat online.
