Good plan for fast starting in MP
Here's a plan that seems to be just about the fastest way to rack up cash from a standing start in multiplayer (unmodded.) The general idea of this is if you're entering a mature server, with storage depots unavailable for rep-adjusting and fast cash, but you don't yet have any high-level characters to transfer money over.
Starting on Manhattan, sell batteries/nanobots and buy 17 Luxury Consumer Goods.
Go to Planet New Tokyo, running from any enemies.
Sell the goods, and buy 20 Engine Components.
Go to Planet Denver, and sell the goods.
You should be able to afford a Rhino and 80 Luxury Consumer Goods there.
Now fly to Ainu Depot in Hokkaido, and sell the goods for big bucks ($100k-plus.)
Buy Cardamine, and fly to Roppongi above Planet New Tokyo.
Sell the Cardamine there, and hop over to New Tokyo to buy a Drone.
Now, you have two choices:
Buy Niobium (you should be able to afford 150+), fly to The Ring in Berlin, sell the goods. You should be able to afford a Humpback at New Berlin, and you can get on any of the usual trade runs from there (diamonds to New Tokyo, engine components to Cambridge or Yanagi, etc.)
Or, if you plan to adjust your reputation with the Lane Hackers, buy Engine Components here at New Tokyo to take to Mactan, and buy a Dromedary. Then take Cardamine to Manhattan of course, and you can get on the usual trade routes from there. (One easy way to get the Hackers non-hostile is to bribe the Junkers somewhere. That's cheaper, easier, and hurts your overall rep less than bribing the Hackers themselves.)
Other than pirating/looting/inheriting, this is the fastest way I've yet figured out for moving up through the ranks of the freighter ships quickly. It's faster to get a Rhino by going Manhattan-New Tokyo-Denver than by going all the way to Ainu and back to Manhattan, and it's only a trip and a half from there to a Drone and one more trip to a top-of-the-line freighter.
I accumulated the cash for an Eagle (load up on engine components before heading to FP9) in about 1:50:00 by doing this.
