Ahhh, I remember just three short weeks ago when I too thought I needed an IP or something to play MP. All you need to do is log on your internet connection, fire up your Freelancer and select MP. Then it will give you a disclaimer, accept it, then it will ask you for LAN or internet, select internet and watch as the servers do a copperfield and appear magically before your eyes. Recommend Browclopsia.

No, no Gamespy. When you connect as Jat71 said and the list of servers "magically" appear, it is because FL is logging you into a global server that lists all the flserver programs connected to the internet. When those flserver programs start they look for the global server to list themselves. This is so those wishing to play MP FL can connect to the global servers and see what flservers are listed. It is possible to directly connect to a flserver though a LAN or the internet but you must know the IP address and the port to acccess. Some servers (like mine, I change it usually weekly) have IP addresses dynamically allocated which means they aren't static (aren't permenant).

So in short, viewing the global server is like using Gamespy except the viewing is built into FL.

Then i doubt you will find a server to play on.

Using mods on unmodded servers usually counts as a ban and i don't know of a server using either the cloaking mod or the osiris mod.

With this new patch from Microsoft I don't think u'll go far at all with that cloaking.

Use the Cloak or any other Mod on Browclopsia or any other unmodded server and you will be banned, count on it.

Well, The Cloaking mod somehow crashed and i can't use it again.Does anyone use the nostory mod?

i used to be able to play, but recently when i start up multiplayer it says "connecting to global server" indefinitely, and never loads. also, when i used to access my comp would slow down with the sheer amount of servers being accessed. now while its connecting absolutely nothing occurs. what the heck is happening?

u can play on my server but u will need to download victor's mod and then u can also buy battle ships but if u will use cloak u will be kicked and kicked again and i only started to put my server online as i don't have now some things on it but u can play
