Rules on 24/7 Proxima Dedicated

As long as people follow the rules on Proxima Dedicated, anybody is welcome.

They are :
a) No modding, hacking or cheating = Instant Ban reason !

b) No PK'ing in the New York system = Overhear warning from Server Deputy, and you get kicked, come back and repeat, you get banned.

c) No dockcamping that last over 30 minutes.

Anything that threatens the stability of the server, will also get you kicked.
Sorry guys, if you have pings in the 500-600's you threaten the stability of the server for all the other players. So upgrade those 28K8 and 33K6 modems to at least a 56K and hope your POTS lines are good enough for at least a 44K connection, if you want to go on Proxima Dedicated without the risk of getting kicked.

Dockcamping IS a part of the game.. Choose to pay the toll, or try to run, your choice to make. But excessive dockcamping will be frowned upon. 30 minutes is the limit.

That's the rules on Proxima Dedicated. Adhere to them, and we will all have fun. Break them and suffer the consequences.

B. Regards

hi
just wondering,,wheres the sever located.

Post Sun Sep 14, 2003 10:09 am

Currently it's down under in Oz, but some changes are planned, due to bandwidth constraints. Within a fortnight maximum, it will relocate stateside with dedicated connection to several backbones, insuring a balanced ping stateside, down under and to the old countries.

More information on this will be forthcoming as plans are finalized.

Due to the bandwidth problems the server has currently been limited to 14 players, but will be back up to 24 players when the move has been done.

Consider Proxima Dedicated, in it's current location, as a "preview" of whats to come.

after reading the server rules , a and b make the normal sense , however c is a bit excessive , 30 minutes , this effectively means that a clan consisting of a mere 2 people can dock camp a person indefinately for hours on end

Personally I think dock camping/spawn killing / dock killing should be outlawed period. Make a rule that says any killing within a 2.5 Km radius arround a base/planet/station is not allowed, that gives people the time to get their bearings, and their stuff together. It also makes for a lot more challinging game play since now all those people hanging outside of stations for easy kills have to work for their kills.
Because lets face it , spawnkilling is only about one thing , ruining somebodies gameplay , it has nothing to do with skill.

Personally if somebody pulls the spawnkilling routine on me I either switch to a different chacracter or turn on the TV on my PC and watch the news in case a secondary character of decent strenght is not available

And yes i realize some people will abuse the rule (that unfortunately is human nature) and hang at 2.4 km shooting outward claiming they can't be shot at because they are in the 'safety zone' or hang at 2.5 km lobbing sunslayers at the station , but hey you can't please everybody

Time is too short to hate everybody , just hate a few

Dutch, I read a console message yesterday advising players that progress made on the current server would not be saved and transfered to the new server. If so, when the new server starts we all start from scratch again or do you have surprises for existing players?

BTW: Corwin, I think I speak for the regulars on TLR when I say: OK we know, we read your many posts, you don't like dock camping. I don't mean this as an insult but you can step down from your soapbox now. As for those tempted to Flame Corwin, please don't.

Thanks

Hey, great to hear news on the server! I haven't been able to get on it a lot lately, but I plan to real soon. As to the Ping, hell yes get a 56k modem, sheesh! Your ISP also is a big factor, I dumped AOL and got Netzero and my ping went from 500 average to 300 just from that. As to dock camping, I consider a clan to be one entity myself, so I'm opposed to 'tag team' docking. Especially when the victim is an independent player NOT in a clan at war with the camp docking clan, but that's just my opinion.

We are working on that. It's possible we might have to do a player wipe when the server is moved to Texas from Australia, but thats mainly bcause we are also working on the serverside mods, so the Omicron Major and Minor systems will be accessable. Not because of the server move itself.

The console message you received was due to a temporary run of the server stateside, but the server is back in Oz at the moment, so any progress made while it's on the 12.xxx.xxx.xxx IP, will hopefully progress over at the final servermove. Thats the part we are working on right now.

More info hopefully later during the week.

Corwin,

People would not be able to dockcamp indefinitely... If two or more people dockcamp a player, it's 30 minutes in total, not pr. player..

Otoh, if a some players gangs up, and dockcamp somebody, and the 30 minutes limit is up, just don't fire if you are the dockcampee.. Because anybody IS allowed to fire back when fired upon.

Your progress will be saved.

What was announced a few days ago was for the temp server, so i could take the main server offline for a hardware upgrade.

I was hosting the temporary server off of my machine, and that announcement was -only- for the temp server, as Azag said.
