Lags!!!

Hi,

yesterday I was playing FL on a server, where I had a ping of about 20ms. When trying to start some PvP, I realized that the game was lagging pretty much. Every 5-10 seconds the screen froze for about 1-2 seconds. The same happened to most of the other players.

When trying to find the problem, we had a look at the background programs that were running on our Windows systems. I realized that my Trillian messenger was running - it was connected to AIM, ICQ and MSN. After stopping Trillian, the lags were gone. I don't know if this was just a conincidence, but running background apps that frequently create Internet traffic might be the problem of some of the server lags...

Has anybody experienced something similar?

Yes, I was on the elite’s server last night, I lost all my cargo a couple of times as it lagged at jump gates and stations, causing the game to crash.

It was the automatic windows update playing silly buggers.

there is a little app called enditallexe that you can shut just about everything down with might be handy as realplayer and all sorts of progs phone home from time to time
