What competition? Against people or the game itself (NPC's, trade runs, etc.)? I know quite a few clans/squadrons on quite a few servers you could take on if you want to go against people. Most clans are good if they are PKers. Also if the odds are stacked against you, there is more competition even if the players are not good. Competition will not look for you, you got to go looking for it. Do it through mutual respect and you may be surprised how much competition you get. (/off soapbox)

Want a challenge? Use a starflier and take on somebody who's in a Sabre/Titan/Eagle.

Want a challenge? Try turning your rep up-side-down, and try not flying the VHF's - go for a Dagger instead. You'll use jumpholes more, see more, and the further you take that Dagger, the more you're gonna need to know about flying it and equipping it.

Here's a good challenge wish item. Read the Sixth Post (Not including the original post) Now that could be a cool server if someone would make it and adopt those rules. Then you would have your challenge without having to handicap yourself with a lesser ship. You would have to do the best you could do and use the best equipment you can find.

The one thing that is missing in this game is an effective police force or navy, the NPC versions are a useless nuisance as they are it would make things more of a challenge if everything in the area would become hostile to you if you attack another player just as they do when you attack NPCs.
Regulators wish list for a hostile server I like with 2 exceptions
1 Noob killing,- this I don't see unless it's another noob, or at least someone flying a low level ship to keep it fair, although I wouldn't mind a "noobs who beg for money will be incinerated on sight" rule.
2 Dock Camping,- only if the target is free of the dock and able to maneuver, otherwise it's no challenge or fun for either party.

Players will do whatever is fun. If it isn't fun for them, then they will quit doing it. If a victim isn't having fun with what is being done to them, then they will find a way to make them stop. I certainly don't think all servers should be like this. Just one server.

Noob killing is in there because it makes it the most challenging to advance. It is already too easy to get ahead. A noob can get away from a noob killer by asking for help. Dock camping makes it more challenging and you can normally get away from a dock camper too. The fun is that you can turn the tables and do the same to the victimizer, but it is challenging.

I stress that these types of server rules should only be on one good server to see how it works out. It could work well if you get a group of good players. The lack of community rules would have to be very clearly stated in the server news and description, so that people would not complain about stuff like that.

Edit: In addition, nearly every server has a no dock camping and noob killing rule. There needs to be something different. On this type of server, there are no real noobs. It is for players that have played elsewhere already.

I misunderstood you, when you said noob I'm thinking, new to the game, but if it's all experienced players with established friendships and alliances who've played together on other servers, then by all means anything goes.
