Got time to help a newb?

You guys have probably seen these questions 1000 times before, and for that I apologise in advance.

Q1. For multiplayer do you have some recomendations for weapon configurations?

Q2. I have noticed there are two basic types of shields, one with a higher point value, and another with a lower point value but "more effective" vs certain weapon types. For multiplayer wher most tend to be well kitted out, what would you recomend?

Q3. What is your favorite ship?

Again, ignore this if you are tired of answering these HIGHLY newb questions. I am trying to learn as quickly as possible so I dont have to bug people with the basics.

Thanks for your time.

Beaver, meet me on the Calgary 24/7 server and I'll take you on a tour. How does that sound?

q1 - weapon config -
The best thing to do is find a listing of weapon stats and study them. Mount guns of the same Velocity for best accuracy.

q2 - shields -
Of the three shield types Graviton has the most points, and I usually choose this regardless of 'best use'... Keep in mind that Graviton is not available for purchase above class 7, and Molecular past class 9, so the only class 10 shield for a VHF(very heavy fighter) is the Positron variety.

q3 - best ship -
My personal preferences include the Drake, Banshee, and Dagger. The Dromedary is my favorite freighter, and the Eagle is my choice for VHF.

There are other good ships too, with the biggest stinkers of the lot being the Startracker and the Wolfhound.

...also I recommend skimming through the forums here and at Lancers HQ. There are all kinds of posts that seek to answer the questions you ask.

Are you positive about that? I'm sure I've seen Graviton shields higher than class 7.

I always have time to help a new player. After all we were all newbs once.

There have been numerous debates about weapons, and I think it comes down to this. Your loadout depends on you fighting style. If you are an excellent shot, you should probably get some high damage weapons with low refire rates. If you are a terrible shot, I recomend going with weapons that have high refires and low energy consumption. At the start, the Vengeances and Justice MKIII are great high refire weapons and the Magma Hammers are high damage low refire guns. If you are going to be a player killer, I also recomend going with some EMP guns. The Devilitators that can be bought on Detroit are good, as are a few others in Bretonia. At the start, you should skip the missiles. When you are trying to save for a new ship, every missle you fire takes away from that ship. Later in the game, torpedoes are excellent and can kill almost every ship in one hit on the hull. If you are a freighter, countermeasures are a must have. Once you have a couple thousand, head straight for the Rheinland and pick up the Adv. CMs. The Adv. thruster can also be bought there.

As for the shields, I prefer the ones with high damage capacity. The Graviton Shields are excellent in this category, and they also repel against many gun types. They can be purchased in the border systems or in the Rheinland and Sigma 13.

The ship debate is also ver conterversial, and it come down to what you are doing. If you want to haul cargo, nothing can beat a freighter. Early in the game, light fighters are awesome. The heavy fighters are also excellent in certain categories. You have to ask yourself a question when choosing a ship: "Do I want to be very agile and avoid shots, or do I want to be able to take tons of punishment?" If you want to be agile, go with the light fighters. The Drake and Banshee are excellent. For armor capacity, go with the heavy or very heavy fighters. The Dragon, Valkyrie and Barracuda are excellent. For a very heavy fighter, you need to ask the same question again. The Hammerhead and Eagle are agile, but have less armor and the Titan and Sabre are the exact opposite.

I hope this helps you out.

SPOILER: WHERE TO GET NOMAD GUNS

Yo get the guns, you have to go to Omicron Gamma or Alpha and find the Unknown jump holes. Go thru the holes and shoot the nomads. They will drop the guns. This is the only way to get them.

but you can't get nomad ships to drop weaps unless you are level 34? ( i think that is the level, I am not 100% though.)
