Fellow n00bs

Right, quick question here - anyone else a little bewildered by the bright lights and whizzy noises of Freelancer online? I know what to do, it's just interacting with others that's a problem...particularly dock campers by the sound of things. I'm just testing the waters here, but what I feel we could do with is a group of n00bs who are prepared to stick together for a while, do a few missions together and then part when we reach sufficiently high levels to look after ourselves. In that time we could recruit more n00bs to carry on after we've left, and thus get a safe base for n00bs to operate out of - a gentle and tutored introductory session would be rather nice. I'm hoping that the Elite server would be a good one to use, given the press it's given on this site. IS anyone interested? I'm not (necessarily) looking for a long-term squadron...I just need a group of two or three like-minded people minimum (maybe 5 maximum for the time-being, until we get things sorted out a bit!)...I've got a draft-up of a few rules it'd be a good move to abide with if anyone's interested. Reply on this message board, then we can work something out! Many thanks,

Genar-Hofoen

Is it a server? I don't remember seeing that one before...probably temporary blindness from the cardamine side-effects! *Gibbers*

I think he meant why don't you make Planet Primus in the Gamma unknown system as your base of operations. And the idea of a group of noobs is pretty good. You could form a clan. The Noob clan.

Noobs vs. Nomads?

I like your idea, but probably best to base yourselves somewhere safer

Post Mon Jun 09, 2003 4:33 pm

Yeah! us n00bs can base ourselves on planet primus. Our secondary base can be planet gammu. :-) Dock campers, let see you try to dock camp us here =) We have the power of the ever present nomads.

...course we might be killed too... but hey, it's a risk we are willing to take.

Sounds like a good idea. I tried MP for the first time yesterday, and sort of expected the type of response I got. Shortly after signing on, a level 30-something player in a souped up ship, obliterated me and proceeded to shoot up the rest of space around Manhatten.

On the next server, most people were level 20 or more, but each one was off doing there own thing. Which makes me wonder why they would log onto a MP game to wander around alone. I mean, you might as well go back to the SP game or spawn your own Lan game so you can do that. I thought the fun was in joining other players.

Five or six servers later, I found a couple of level 1 players interested in cooperation and good natured play. Pretty rare for Multiplayer games, it seems.

I'm in, i really want to start playing online it looks so cool, single players good enough but multiplayer always rules 10x more in these types of games.... if you want to email me information then here it is:

Get in touch i'd be glad to join the server =).

Right...sorry about the delay in posting a reply...the infamous "underscore issue" screwed my account up. This is my new account, with NO underscores anywhere at all! Glad to see there's a lot of support for the idea - I've e-mailed several people about it, so it should become a reality quite soon...or at least I hope so! I'd best be off now, for the hour is late and darkness creeps about the land, silent and inevitable as a well-paid assassin...Catch you all later!

Excellent idea, Hal. Maybe set up a Yahoo group or sumpthin' to coordinate members, dispense info, etc. In any event, count me in.

Right, let's clear things up a bit. The original post on this board by Hal_9000 was actually by "Genar-Hofoen" - me - until my account screwed up and reversed my username and password! =OS That account is now gone, and this is my new one. Glad to see there's a lot of support here...we're going to meet on the "Omega Vortex 24/7 dedicated server" soon - only 9 people though, so on a "first come, first serve" basis! I'll post the clan rules below...anyone found to be breaking them will be shot down and banned from the server once we've dispersed the smoking wreckage - so play nice =OP

Rules:
1) No hacking, cheating or modding
2) No PvP (this is temporary only...once we've got better ships, higher levels and shootier guns it'll change, methinketh)
3) If you've got some good tricks, tell the other clan members and listen to other clan members...they might have something useful to say!
4) If a player of a higher level than you tells you to do something, do it (as long as it's a reasonable request!) I don't want us to be an anarchic clan =OP
5) We'll be doing jobs and missions together

That's it for now...see you in space shortly! The "Omega Vortex 24/7 dedicated server" and I'll post a time here shortly (when myself and Neo_chaos52 organise a time ourselves!) - it'll be in CET (so look on this website, not at your clock for the time!) and hopefully it'll be tonight or Thursday night. My call-sign on Freelancer is Genar-Hofoen, so look for me first. I should be around Liberty itself, but if not call me on chat and I'll be there ASAP.

Best of luck fellow n00bs...

Great idea. However how about a rebalance mod server. It has a lot of new stuff in there and the ships are so expensive its takes forever to get the great ships. It's quite refreshing after playing SP and perfect for MP.

Anyway I'll give it a shot but going from rebalance to unmod and back is a pain in the @$$.
