Allright, some guy with a much better ship started attacking me, so I entered into cruise and made a run for it. But the guy kept firing at me, and at the same time was able to keep up. How can that be possible? He should either fire or travel at cruise speed, not both. He said he went in and out of cruise, but that can't explain it, because it takes about 5 seconds to engage the cruise engines and he was able to close in even when I was at full cruise speed on a straight line. How can that be possible? In MP Is it possible for a player to hit the "formation" button to another one he is fighting and than fly faster then cruise speed, like on the SP?
It's possible that he could cut his engines from cruise and fire at you and still catch up IF he wasn't directly behind you in the first place and the angle of your flight path and his flight path placed him slightly closer to the point where your paths intersect.
HOWEVER
While it's hard to really come to a verdict on whether someone was cheating in a case like this without witnessing it yourself, the dialog you describe suggests that he said to you that he would enter cruise, cut engines and fire, enter cruise, cut engines and fire, etc etc. If he actually suggested that he entered cruise more than once (which he would have to do if while chasing you, you changed directions sharply enough since it's not possible to change directions with engines cut), entering cruise instantly cuts your speed down to 80 for five seconds. He was probably cheating.

Thanks for the answers. Sapien, I am familiar with the "cut engines" strategy, so I would change my direction and try to fly on a straight line, or in random directions towards an specific goal (in that case, the radiocative nebula on Texas). So I wasn't in circles, but I was not on a straight line.
By what you told me, he was probably cheating, simply because he would never stop firing, even as he closed from over 1000k to just 50k. He did close on me while firing, and I was changing directions. That player is a known PK and suspected cheater.
My only doubt was if a player can enter in formation with anothe player and fly over the normal 300kbps. You can do that with allied players, but I don't know if you can do that with someone you are attacking.

I looked at him with the view-back button. I even went into his direction some times. He was following my every move, he was not in a straight line.
He either was able to enter in formation (and fly faster than 300), or was cheating.
You made a good point: not only it takes 5 seconds to engage the cruise engines, but the ship must slow down to 80 speed. He said he had to go in and out of cruise speed several times, each time he fired, and that was a lot. He didn't stop firing, and he didn't slow down.

Considering that when one's engines are cut, the ship still slows down gradually, along with the fact that this player was not chasing you while maneuvering (not just in a straight line) then my conclusion is that he was either hacking, or you are mistaken.
