Ahem, yes. I somehow cannot connect to multiplayer... i press multiplayer and the screen comes, and it says connecting to global server on top right. However, that message stays there, and no servers come up. Whats wrong? I have a router, PS. Oh yeah, and what is the incoming port number for FL? I know Starcraft's is at 6112, but what is it for Freelancer? perhaps i can use it to send an incoming port..
This MAY help.... when I tried to run a server, and/or play multi...I had the same problem. And the server would never connect to the list server.
I read somewhere that with DX9 you need to run dxdiag (go to RUN and type dxdiag) there will be a tab called NETWORK. Select that and TEST DIRECTPLAY button. It will bring up a chat box..... close that chat box and make sure the message in DXDIAG baox says DIRECTPLAY TEST OK or something like that.
After I did this... VIOLA.... listserver is cool, multi works!
Good luck and I hope this helps

When you say you "rebooted" do you mean you just uninstalled the game and reinstalled it? or just shut down your comp? or reboot and format your entire hard drive?
I am VERY frusterated I still cant figure this out and I have been trying to get on MP for 3 straight days now.... I have done everything I can think of, reinstalled dx9, installed new uptodate drivers for my video card, configured and set up dx and about a zillion other little things all to no avail. Everytime i push multi and click on okay for the disclaimer i go to a blank server list screen and "connecting to global server..." appears and thats it! It just sits like that and freezes.
ahhh.... just cant figure it out. I have a new 2.4Ghz P4 with XP, cable internet and 64meg Gforce card. never have probs playin multiplayer games except now.
Hawk out.

To open the pirts on a DSL modem or Router, u need to connect to it.
To connect:
open a IExplorer window, type in : 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or what the router now got for IP-adress. Then u wil be promted to give a username and password. If nobody has changed it the user and pass will be:
User: Admin
Pass: Admin (sometimes its just blank)
Opening Ports:
What firewall/router/modem u got? (It depends on what u got)
Mostly u will need to look for a place called Virtual Server/IP or something like UDP ports. There u will have to type in the ports u want to open, 2300-2400, and your internal IP-adress.
To see your Interal IP-adress:
Go to "Start", Run and then type ipconfig. this usually brings up a command line, thus the old DOS-Promts. U wil se a IP-adress field, a Subnetmask fild and a default gateway field. the IP u are looknig for is in the IP-adress field. Usually something like 192.168.0.5 (just an example)
Then u should be able to play.
Check this for more info We have got this isue alot and most pople post it in the Technical forum.
