I think (for the clan base idea) we should be able to purchase and fly gunboats and battleships. That way a particular faction could "fortify" their base with some of their members in gunboats. A good blockade of warships and fighters could make destroying bases very hard.

Since they are flyable (extreeemly expensive) we could have capship battles. Maybe when your base is getting destroyed beyond repair you could put all the bases credits and other things into a player flyable train and have them run away.

The idea is very good but I reckon you should be able to have NPC ships guard your base if it is possible to destroy. Also if your base is something like a battleship you may want to move it if you are attacked by another clan because you get attacked and attacked until money is depleted and the other clan takes down your base

No matter what kind of base you construct, all you'll need are a few players with supped up Eagles/Sabres/Titans (anyone can get that), and it won't stand a chance! ...unless of course you have super powerful weapons and fleets of lvl10 ships guarding it.

Also, the thing that a few people have said and you haven't bothered to acknowledge. For most of those changes...YOU NEED THE SOURCE CODE!!! So most likely it's impossible for a MODer to do something like this. But even if someone could do it, Freelancer seems so horribly unbalanced that it would never work the way you hoped. The first paragraph is a good example.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the idea. I even had an idea like this myself...but that was before realizing what FL was REALLY like. I came to realize that the game that Freelancer became was VERY different to the game I imagined. Seems like some others think this way, so maybe I'll write up a comparrison and see what they think.

how easy it is to destroy a base depends solely on how many hit points you give it (lets say 100 thousand which would take a full load of sunslayers to blow it up) if you have it regenerate, and if you give it a shield , also it depends on what you do with the armament , if you up the output of the canons on the station to the point where 4 or 5 shots take down a lvl 10 fighter it would be very hard to destroy one

ok its 6 am aussie time i need sleep and my brain doesnt seem to be functioning but maybe this could slighty help

1:possibility of totally customizable bases eg weapons sheilds
2:maybe even making bases mobile? eg on a weekly basis or something u could move it ?
3:maybe a bunch of random planets could be placed around for purchuse possibly planets could be used for mining recources (just generates materials over time)
4:now this idea is pretty out there but how about a warp drive or worm hole/jump hole generator to get from one system to another from odd places it would be almost god like to have one but if they cost like 900,000,000 and could only be purchused from clan bases if the clan could afford them that would be cool
5:clan ships i think would be good (might have been suggested to tired to read all posts)
6:maybe a plugin for the navmap to monitor the locations of all clan members would be severly handy
7:maybe a numeric rankign system such as there is but altered so like when u hit level 90 u become a general level 40 a leutenant etc
8:a flyign chicken!
9the possiblility of afordable varients of engines and thrusters that all attain different speeds
10rganic weaponry eg weapons that eat hulls over time and such
11:sex damnit every game needs sex!
12:..i just found a chocolate bar in my room oh i mean um solar storms in rogue systems that could damage incoming travelers if ther enot carefull this kinda thing could be usefull for clans who own a system behind a system with a sun that does that
13: to do with 12 maybe even a sun disrupter cannon that would set a sun to ignite and fire off random bursts of death
14:the ability to steal other dead players weapons (cmon if it was real life id even steal your shoes)
15:i no this has been dribbled about in every forum but a claoking device when activated doesnt allow any guns fired or anything maybe take the code from the cruise engines or something
16:um.... a ship radio!
17:ship power amplifiered could be bought for a price to be hooked up to the ship yet again for a small price to increse energy levels for guns and such
18:customizable guns and turrets?
19:drugs lol maybe u could ingest cardimine and make ur ships controls invert ..would be fun and u no ti
20:and finally maybe a galaxy jump gate eg gates from kusari to liberty britonia to rhienland in 4 jumps and stuff u get what i mean

nice ideas from everyone. Here's a few I do on my server. keep in mind that these are only server side mods that don't require others to download anything.

Things already done:
1) daily faction and ship changes for new characters
2) weekly contests for fun and prizes. current ones are, nomad hunting, pvp dueling, and racing.

To be done:
1) randomized encounters. I'd like to vary encounters on a weekly basis. maybe reenact the 80 years war in the sigma systems.
2) use of transports without requiring others to download mods.

unfortunately, those are just server side mods. still for clans, it's possible to set the faction certain clans start out with, and the ship they have. It'd be nice if Freelancer 2 (if one will even exist) could be more MMO friendly without forcing everyone to pay monthly fees, cause let's face it, even dialup internet isn't cheap anymore.

The guild and clan Ideas are some really good ones. perhaps a clan pool for credits could be implemented in future lancer games, and dynamic construction of a planet, even terraforming. AI controlled escort ships for purchase would also be a welcome idea. Now if only I could change respawning to what I want. . . .

We are doing something very similar to that at Samurai Studios. Our mod, Alternate Universe, will have six nations. It is set just after the sleeper ships arrive and each nation only has one colonized planet and low level ships and weapons. It's like FL meets Civ. Your nation has to research technologies to improve their capabilities and must explore and settle unsettled areas. The Nomads are there in force, of course, and must be dealt with. There is way too much to it to go into detail here and we are only just beginning. New ideas are always welcome. This would be a good idea but practically impossible.It would take a few days to moddel it into something but the only way you could make tis possible is to make is some kind of Dockable Ship.This is like among many crazy ideas i have heard and for eve the best modders,this would immediately crash the game.and, where do you buy it and how?And where would anybody get over 50,000,000 credits? Oh this sounds so crazy and confusing i need some medicine
