Creating Roleplaying Clan

Want help in running a persistent server? Want to setup a gaming session? Look no further!

Post Sun Apr 27, 2003 3:05 am

I have already spoken to Martaigne on this idea and, from what I'm reading in the proposed Code of Honor, it sounds very promising. I think this group will become a conglomerate of sorts; having many different clans, groups, guilds, etc. affiliating with it.

I will be bringing this idea up to my friends of the Phantom Brigade and proposing that we affiliate ourselves with the Black Lotus. Our Freelancer detachment is known as the Sirius Transport Guild specializing in the shipment of commidities of a non-perishable nature to points all over the Sirius Sector. We will be waiting to hear more details of the server that this group will be using and watching this forum for the latest details. I sincerely hope this proposal turns out to be what we all hope it can be.

Wow! The response to this idea has been overwhelming, to say the least!

We've decided that, in order to keep the clan manageable, we will have to limit our membership. We've decided to take applicants on a first-come first-served basis. I'm going to be sending out a bulk email early this week to inform people of our current status and progress.

I have a few comments on the above... yes, we are limiting the clan membership. If you are not selected to be a Black Lotus, or our membership fills up before we reach your application, this does NOT mean you can not associate with us or play on our server or interact with us. In fact, we would enjoy it immensely if we inpire some of you to create your own roleplaying clans. How boring would it be if we were the only roleplaying clan and had no allies or enemies?! Roleplaying would be nearly pointless! For those of you that have already organized groups, I highly encourage you to build upon your foundations and expand your organizations in order to provide this sort of interaction.

A word about the server... it's not up yet. When it is up, it will simply be called 'Black Lotus' and will have a password which I will divulge via our website, which should be up in a minimal fashion this week. I've recently experienced some hardware difficulties and was forced to format and reinstall my operating system last week, so I was set back a few days in development.

I still have everyone's email that attempted to contact me, so be prepared to be contacted this week.

I'll sign up to be a merchant !

Also, I'd be willing to help put out a small newsletter (I'm an English teacher).

if you're still taking, count me in, but don't kick someone or whatever for me. It's up to you.

PS. Clan code of honour is great

Just FYI, we'll probably be playing mainly on Elite, now that they're back up. I am still working on resolving some of my video card issues and getting a website up.

Thank you for the update, Martaigne.

Just a concern tho...

Elite is but a quite popular place nowadays and has a limit of 30. It would be nice to have a clan server eventually anyway imho. Otherwise the clan activity might be quite limited by number of available Elite connections.

That's been noted already, but I cannot run the server until I resolve my video issues.

This is probably one of the best ideas I've ever heard of for a clan, and I absolutly love it. But there's a few things that concern me.

First off, using Elite probably isn't the best idea. Personally I find the whole NEO aspect of Elite quite annoying, as the dominate half the server and PK anyone who decides to enter into their zones.

Another is that there will be a lot of factions on Elite that are not roleplaying or being honorable in any way shape or form (NEO comes to mind). Black Lotus will suffer many deaths if they are to stand by their honor system even in such a dis-honorable surrounding.

I think the honor system could be improved by changing the way to raise your honor level. Besides the fact that gathering a petition could, potentially, take more than a week if not enough of a variety of people are on, as mentioned before, Black Lotus is based on a Japenese styled honor system, and this really doesn't fit in. I think you should be judged and ranked according to what you've shown of your honor to the people of a higher rank than you, and let them decide your ranking, or bring it to someone of a level 8 or up rating and let them decide, there are several possibilities.

The last thing is that you noted that Black Lotus is putting a limit on its memebers. Why not have the creators of the clan split into two clans, one with Liberty, let's say, and one with the Corsairs, or whichever factions they wish. The clan will have a "System of operation", say Shi***u or Omicron Beta. That way, not only will you have roleplaying opposition, but you will be able to accept everyone into the clan that wants to join up with such an honor system as this one.

Personally, I'm very interested in this, because I'm an avid RPer, and I like the idea of honor and such, and I would like to join Black Lotus if there's still room.

Just consider my ideas.

To my knowledge Black Lotus still exists only in this thread.

As for the server I suggest Chicago 24 - 7. It is stable and still underloaded.
