Creating Roleplaying Clan

A small group of us are starting a clan, faction, whatever, with an emphasis on roleplay. We're looking for good roleplaying pilots in the GMT -5 - GMT -8 timezones (that's Eastern to Pacific for the yanks). If you have interest, you may contact me by replying here or by emailing me at martaigne(at)accordinglydone(dot)com. A group discussion will be arranged in the near future to discuss policies, backgrounds, and server issues.

Good idea 'cause it seems that everybody wants to join 707th lately but they are on London time. So, how about creating "GMT-Minus" system on some server to meet and organize...HQ-like?

We're working on that, I'm organizing everything through email at the moment, and we're either going to find or set up a FL server for us to tool around on and work things out.

Sounds fascinating . . .

I'd like to hear more about this possibility.

Okay, here's the skinny thus far... it will be a neutral faction for the most part, built on a solid system of honor... in this faction, honor will be everything. We're discussing modeling it in a Kusari fashion, borrowing from the Japanese feudal system, perhaps. We will have a loose command structure where players will be able to choose what they'd like to do, for example: scouts, merchants, escorts, arms dealers, bounty hunters and mercenaries, and so on. We would like a playerbase of pilots with mixed contacts so we can take advantage of equipment from any existing factions, and possibly sell to other players via networking.

Sounds good. I like the idea of honor, loose command structure. This way it still will be FREElancer. But then it is not quite as Japanese feudal system, where *master* is a god.

One question so far, how nuetral position can be achived or more importantly maintained if you need to fight some faction(s) once in a while (e.g. during escorts, 'cause your contractor might not neut to *them*) which may *shift* your fine tuned political balance?

Too many people view neutrality as a static idea. To be neutral doesn't necessarily mean you will ride the fence and never step on anyone's toes, or never get too friendly with anyone.

Neutrality (IMO) is best expressed as a blade that cuts both ways... It is a difficult concept to hold oneself to indeed. We can work with anyone anywhere, or work against them equally as well, all the while holding to our strict codes of honor.

One's personal alignment doesn't come into play as far as the faction itself goes, as we expect our members to have varying degrees of diplomacy with the existing factions in the game. In this manner, though, we can work together to achieve the best of everything from wherever we need it, be it weapons, ships, cargo, etc.

I like this idea so far, and i like the idea of "loose" command structure. I've seen clans for other games where they have real heirarchies that force members to follow the orders of "commanding" officers and crap.... i hate that kind of stuff. as long as you don't try to boss me around, i'm interested. Martiange, i would like to join in on the fun...if you'll let me.

Well, as you know, I'm totally in. It sounds like way too much fun to possibly pass up, and I've been itching for some Freelancer-based roleplay since I got ahold of the game. :>

Nice idea good luck btw which server you gona be playin on?

@Hornet: As long as the code of honor is followed, and an effort is made to roleplay, anyone may join. We'll be working up the code of honor over the next few days, and coming up with a checks and balances system so as to not give any one person overwhelming authority.

@bountyhunter: As far as the server, we're still discussing possibilities. My favorite server was Elite, but some unwholesome gits managed to ruin it for everyone. We may even run our own.

Martaigne, I didn't know you were posting this stuff here... Cool.

What I had begun to envision when Martaigne mentioned "Honor" to me was a clan of noble pilots that follow some of the Japanese cultural ideas regarding honor. Obviously it would be a true challenge to become completely neutral. I don't think that would be the absolute goal of the clan.

The code of combat/engagement would have to be designed/written. Part of that would include no dirty, underhanded techniques. Like, for example, nailing people when they attempt to dock. Issuing challenges to opposing clan members and winning would bring great honor to you, and your clan. If you are persued, you must defend yourself. In a battle, you fight to the death. Retreating is not honorable, unless you are seriously overwhelmed.

Clan members would need to present a little bit of additional respect for those of greater honor status. Those of greater honor should have influence, but not autocratic command. A militarily structured clan obviously has it's faults.

More later...

Martaigne: As we have discussed at 707th I am in. Honor above all else is good with me. Only way to enforce this would be to run your own server. Dishonor your clan and face retribution from the whole clan.
