select base, press F3 for dock, door opens, you fly out

Thanks for the reply. I tried it and it did not work.

If your problem is selecting the base, bring up your targeting cosole, and select in manually from there. Then you can either press f3, or click dock, the doors will open automatically and you can fly out (docking sequence will do this for your) or you can do it on your own. Also you might just dock immediately. I do this all the time, it's especially fun when someone is chasing you and you hide in the dock.. heheh.

I had this happen once with a humpback. The nose was in a lower corner of the docking bay (at an angle), and I couldn't get it to turn around. I tried the above idea, but the doors wouldn't open. I'm thinking they were waiting for my autopilot to get somewhat lined up before opening... The autopliot was unable, and just kept bouncing me around in the bay. I finally got out when an AI ship entered docking procedure, causing the doors to open. As soon as they opened, I hit reverse thrust and backed out enough to turn and escape. Before they opened, reverse thrust was just pushing on the doors.

I suppose I could have tried dumping enough mines to destroy my ship (no cargo at the time). Bouncing around sure wasn't doing enough damage...
