trouble with server

ok I got a server going but when a friend of mine tried to connect he got a strange message saying that the internet connection went down (or something like that) , I myself don't have a problem entering the server (from another computer AND from the same computer)
I really think we need more reliable servers so that's why I started one.. but if people can't connect I don't know what I'm doing it for.
anyone with the same problem?
can anyone try to connect to my server to see if it's my problem or my friends' ?
server name is http://madmanonline.tk 24/7
any tips or comments are welcome...

btw.. my ip is 192.168.1.104
I'd really apreciate it if someone just tested it :/
just to make sure the server is actually working (it's kinda useless to have a server running day and night if nobody can connect to it)

you should consider telling your friend your i-net IP instead of that 192.168...interior LAN IP - he sure won't be able to connect to a LAN IP over the Internet

this is the ip trough which I connect to the internet .. I'm on a LAN though.. could be part of the problem. anyway... he sees my server but can't connect to it.. anyone with similar problems that can help me?

the 192.168.blah.blah is your ip address for your lan, check your router for it's WAN ip address. Thats the ip you should give your friend. If your friend can see your server in the server browser, but is unable to connect, check your router to make sure the correct ports are forwarded to your game server. I don't remember what ports those are, but go to the ms website and search support for "freelancer ports" and it should come up.

Try http://www.whatismyipaddress.com/ to get your external IP address.

217.136.185.67 <--- that's my external ip adress... can anyone see if they can connect now?

Madman,

I've tried now for a while to connect and I as well get the "taking longer than expected" and "cannot connect" windows. I see your server listed on the global list, but the ping field is always just dashes " --- " and I'm on a dialup. I have connected to a few other servers to make sure I can connect at all, and as long as the pings are less than 300 it seems to connect ok. Have you opened ports 2302, 2303 and 2304 for your server to use? Good Luck to ya.

ok first of all.. I don't know where or how to open up those ports... and second... that's the problem my friend was having as well.. so now I know it's something on MY computer that needs to be fixed ... thanks... any help on opening those ports would be awesome

okay, I'm gonna make some assumptions, you tell me if I'm wrong. I'm guessing you have a router and that the router has a web interface. You're ip was 192.168.1.104, so the router is prob 192.168.1.1 - try typing that as the url in your web browser. (you may need a password, check your manual for the default)
When you get there, you'll see all sorts of settings to change... look for a tab for port forwarding... maybe you have to go to advanced settings first.
there you can list the ports you want forwarded to whatever ip address.

As a side note, you may want to do a little research on networking and such. If you use dhcp from your router (you never set an ip address for your computer, yet it magically has one), you may encounter a problem later. the ip address your computer has now may not be the one it has next time you turn it on... meaning port forwarding you just did won't help you next time.

again, sorry if I made too many assumptions - I am prone to making an ass outta myself :-P

well your assumptions were correct (including the one where you said I needed a password) so now I gotta wait for the guy who knows the password.. hopefully it'll be fixed then I'll post a reply when I tried it.
