Problems with reputation!

Hello everybody.
I wanted to know if anybody can help me with this --->

When I start the game, my reputation with LSF, Navy and some other Liberty based "good guys" is very high, which makes me hostile with most if not all the pirate-like sorts in the game. Frankly, this makes me a bit angry, as I find blowing up 100+ navy/police/corporation ships and becoming hostile with a few bases in a system a rather STUPID way of leaving the ranks of peacekeepers, which I actually never joined!

But what really bugs me is that I played with my friend on LAN, and we didn't have this problem. As we started the game, we were neutral towards ALL the factions (absolutely NOT a single point in direction of either hostile or friendly on the reputation bars). Apparently, this reputation "bug" (as I call it) appears only in Internet games, and I've got absolutely no clue what causes it.

That's not a bug, that's how it's supposed to be. The argument is basically "if you were neutral with EVERYONE, then you could do anything you wanted without any resistance (except other players, that is)...hence making it FAR too easy to progress.

If you start completely neutral in a server, it simply means that they've made changes. Besides, trying to be friendly with criminals is more like an extra challenge to gain access to the more powerful ships in the game. Some may disagree, but it certainly explains why criminals have the best ships (like the Saber).

I got another Rep. problem
When I buy the Sabre I was neutral with the oucasts but wanted the Wyrm II blaster and must do some missions from the outcasts,
but now everybody hates me(except liberty police thats neutral but getting worse)and can't get out of the border Worlds (sigmas, omicrons)

Well unfortunately C4Ever that's what would happen in life too. If you wanted something badly enough to take a mission or job from some criminal elements I'm sure that you would probably piss some people off who are on the principled (might be a poor word) side of society. That's just the way it works....

Go and so some work for the groups that are friendly with the groups that are friendly with the groups you want to be friendly with or destroy a bunch of ships from the enemy listing of the faction that you're trying to get in good with... these really are simple solutions... you've just got to doo them sometimes even though you may not want too...

What can I say...in this particular respect the game almost fits true to life...

Or you could take advantge of the rep hack. They are expensive but well woth the money (you don't piss as many people off).

Then, what do you change in your server files so that everyone starts neutral? Is there an ini file that you can tweak for that? Anything?

Thanks!

1. thanks for the answers.. this makes some sense now ;D

2. I NEVER changed anything in my "server files". My friend installed FL, then run the server even before he run FL for the first time. As we connected, we were both neutral towards everybody, and judging by this I assumed it was THE way the things are in the game...

and was kinda shocked to see this "reputation problem" later when playing through internet

Apparently this reputation issue is more serious than I initially thought. I suffer from the same problem (yes, it is a problem and not an advantage) of everyone starting NEUTRAL to everyone else. Just makes the game boring, boring, boring and worse still, it resets the reps each time the server goes down. This stupid bug has ruined all my FL multiplayer experience and I'm desperately researching for a solution, or at least a pointer as to what's the cause. If anyone has any knowledge of this, please reply.

Strange, my rep seems to be preserved okay. Me and some friends been playing quite a bit on this server machine that gets rebooted like a couple of times a day. No problems with rep so far.
