Best of Class - Guns/Turrets - Damage/sec

Promised this as soon as I got enough info from our resource extractors (Thx vovin). This might be **SPOILER** material, depends on who you ask.. I think it's just good multiplayer material. I've seen so many requests for the "best" class 7 or 6 guns, with very few answers, I figured I'd put an end to at least some people's questions.

Spent more time writing my cross-referencing utility than actual compiling the listing, but I love pushing the limits of mirc scripting (one day I'll learn a REAL language... one day).

The Following is a listing, of the most powerful guns and turrets in each mountable class. Most Powerful meaning damage per second. These are all AVAILABLE for purchase at some station or base (that version of this list, along with full stats on each gun are coming), so this does not include any guns that might only be aquired through loot drops.. this includes ALL class 10 guns.

If there are any mistakes in this listing, please let me know. I think I did a decent job of writing the cross referencing utility, but I didn't verify each entry (that's why I wrote the utility in the first place). Will update shortly with speed/rate/range/energy/price. After that, Buy Locations.

Can you post the rest of the results? like 2nd, 3rd place etc.

Sometimes I don't want to search the galaxy for the Best gun if I already have the second best

The locations of the "Best of Class" list should be out soon. And a good way to tell how what you have rates for now, is to simply compare your current guns to the Best of Class. If the damage output is in the neighborhood, then you're likely ok. At any rate, work on the complete list is moving along, and should be available to the community shortly.

Damage per second isnt always the way to classify them. What about range? Speed?

Both are very important. I will forgo the gun with higher damage if the speed is not at least 700 m/s.

I am currently armed with Class 9 weapons called "skyblasts"...they have a cool sound too.

depends on what you're after. IMO the best route to go is to have the highest damage output in you highest class slots, and fill in the rest with a nice complimentary weapon (same speed, maybe refire).

"The List" is coming along, which will include every gun and turret, and hopefully all the purchase locations. Shields may get added, but not likely till after the initial framework is completed. I don't see the point in listing shields just to compare capacity/recharge, for the same reason I don't plan on doing mines and missiles.. they're universal (to factions), and have a linear class progression.. it's not hard to see that a 4,000 credit mine does less damage than a 7,000 credit mine (ammo). There's not going to be a level 4 mine that works better than a lvl 5. The same applies to shields. The only differences I could lay out is the effectiveness of a Class 7 Graviton vs. a Class 7 Positron against a certain faction.. which I will admit might be handy, but the game tends to balance that on it's own.. e.g. The Corsair level 10 is tuned to take less damage from Outcast weapons, and to get the Corsair 10, there's a good chance you're not worried about Corsair weapons fire (which is effective vs. Graviton shields), and that you've likely not played nice with the Outcasts. So basically, you almost automatically get the best shield for your situation.

Im speaking in broad terms here, so before someone goes fLaming me over specific situations where my logic may not apply, assume that I already understand. And I may have gotten the shield types backwards, feel free to fLame me on that if I did (I should know better).

However, as I said, the Shields will likely be added, but only for the sake of the purchase locations. And you'll more than likely be able to view them sorted by capacity and whatnot, so I assume my arguement is only for the sake of order.. In other words, you'll see the Guns/Turrets Full listing before shields or mines. But once that's accomplished, it should be pretty simple to add all the other stuff.

I agree with the Sadist. Damage per second does not indicate effectiveness. Ever try hitting something with a bunch of lavablades? When you do, the effects are gratifying, as a big chunk of hull disappears -- but try hitting Kusari Drakes or other quick ships with them and you will be cursing loudly.

Which brings me to another point. Once you get below 700 m/s, there are few guns to match with. Only the Barrager and a few others have a quick refire at these sluggish speeds, and accuracy beyond 200 meters is, well, non-existent. At 500 m/s you're projectile takes more than a full SECOND to reach maximum range.

It makes me very sad that there are no 8.33 guns that I can match with my specials or nomads. Sometimes when the enemy has but a sliver of hull left, I am frustrated at firing huge, slow cannons after him hoping to get that last hit... if I could mount a Skyblast with my nomads and still be accurate this problem would be solved... but then I end up missing with the nomads...

I believe there is a class 6 Kusari gun that has 8.33 at 600 m/s -- but wasting a class 9 or 10 slot on that pea-shooter seems like a losing proposition.

Can you list best damage efficiency? As in, the guns which do the most damage per energy drain. I suppose this would be useful in SP, as there are very large targets which you have to work at, and you want to convert your powerplant into energy efficiently.

This list is not completely correct anyway, although it mostly is.

In class 2 the most damaging weapon per second is the scorpion (73 x 4 = 292), not the Barrager (30 x 8.33 = 249.9).

In class 5, there is a tie between the Pyros Type 2, and the Tarantula, which both having equal rates of fire and damage.

In class 6, there is again a tie between the Pyros Type 3, and the Advanced Tarantula. See above.

It is important to list a tie. Why? Because failing to do so destroys the objectivity of the list. If this is a list of greatest damage per second weapons in each class, then no other factors must enter into the equation.
