Nice post Ivar. On top of that a lot of us are having to deal with massive problems with MP that have no reasonable solutions at this point. There needs to be a patch before Im forced to go on a murderous rampage.

the only reason I'm being sarcastic is because you be****ted 4 or 5 server's mabey work on your own first, you would have got the same results no? don't expect me to congratulate you for getting away with cheating on a public server

It appears that very few people realized the original reason for this post....Ivar was trying to provide information on how to do it, not so people could cheat...but for people to see how it's done, so they know what to look for.

Cheating DOES suck....BUT if everyone knows what to look for....it makes it not worth it to cheat, because you will get kicked off that server.

I applaud Ivar for his attempt...Too bad we have people in here that only see the word "Cheat" and start screaming, without reading the full post.

i was hacking this game when i got it 2 weeks before it was released

and i know jack **** about hacking/coding, prolly about as much as ivar knows...

it has no replay value and is boring as can be...

and yes i played on big servers, didnt cheat on them, invested maybe 14 hours into the game

i give it about another month before its not played no more :
so sad, it had potential but just not enough depth and different things to do

Please, cheaters, gorw up a bit. I don't care if you like joining a server full of other cheaters, that makes it fair, and yes after an SP game is finished and acheived I enjoy a muck around too, but how can you honestly have any sense of worth from gaining victories which aren't yours?

If you haven't got the skill to play without cheating, why bother? And if you merely enjoy it, please go and enjoy it somewhere else where everyone else does too.

My server is private and will remain so, as I want to play the game and have fun, not spend my life having people with no social skills to speak of thinking they are very clever because a cheat enables them to gain skills they haven't the wit, patience or skill to learn in the first place. I simply can't understand how you can actually have any sense of worth from doing it.

Your choice, of course, but don't expect to be popular, and expect to be stuffed royally when patches stopping it come out and my goodness you have to use your skill rather than, important point, SOMEONE ELSE'S. Do unto others...

Secondly, Cheating ****s up servers. It really sucks to be building a legit character and having some moron with cheats screw over the server. If you want to cheat, do so on your own server or on other cheating servers

I disagree, if you have no skill at all you will get shot lots and die. That doesn't take time, that takes learning to avoid the shots... ie flying betetr, thus defining skill!

If it's too easy, obviously you are a skilled pilot. Don't knock everyone else's achievments!

hey-hi-hi. i'm ivar's roommate. i watched him do that cheat experiment, and believe me it was entirely client side and had absolutely no effect upon server stability. that was one reason why it worked. i swear he wouldnt have done it if there was even a tiny chance of wreaking havoc on someone else's computer or ruining someone else's fun. i wouldnt have let him. its MY slow outdated crappy noisy box.

he really was trying to do something positive. regardless of how you feel about his test, his intentions were solid and no way did he deserve the crap he got (and still gets it seems). hes not a cheater, but doesnt tell others that its wrong (which is great cuz i cheat like a mofo on single player cuz im bored with the game). he didn't play his experimental cheats. no claimin', no frontin'. on my end, mucho thanks to you peeps that actually read the entire post and offered some kind words. sadly the majority response put him off tha game for a while (and multiplayer forever), so i thought id step up in his absence and set the record straight.

why is everyone into making accusations instead of asking for clarification? am i the only guy who enjoys a little chronic with his freelancer? if necessary, ill pack my rhino full of chiba and make some trade runs to your hoods. just look for the ship with the loooooooong trail of thick smoke behind it. that ain't afterburner baby

I want to run a tournament with Freelancer and I want it to be as cheat free as possible.. I want patches that prevent the cheats!

Hey Ivar,

I'm a developer and I've been writing a few tools to help the Freelancer server become more reliable (restart daemon, Ethernet load balancing, RAM disks, etc). Recently my server has been experiencing an onslaught of cheating. I was hoping that if I understood the cheating process a little more clearly I would be able to write either a packet-filtering module for Linux firewalls or a program similar to PunkBuster. Once I have a set of working tools I'll release it to the public.

I would very much like to know what you have learned about cheating, and how it's done. Easy cheater why u think its easy to cheat man. the game are simple anyway,do some jobs and collect money ship and weapons in usual way cus in my opinion thats the right way to do....
