The general place to discuss MOD''ing Freelancer!

Turrets

So i think alle players wich play Freelancer love the big battleship mods !
But u all remeber games like X2 !
Why noone include automatic shooting turrets for battleships or upgreads that the towers shoot alone at enemys ?
has someone any suggestions how to do this ?

Well, let me tell you an analogy...

20 years ago, trucks used to cough black smoke and pull very small loads.

Today trucks don't smoke, and carry very big loads.

My old truck can't carry modern big loads, and it still coughs black smoke.

So I bought myself a new truck, it doesn't smoke and it can carry very big loads.

Get my meaning?

I think he means the player’s ship. Which does not Auto fire at enemy npc's unless you target it and click. What he wants IMO is to have the players turrets shoot automatically.

AFAIK, it cannot be done in Freelancer. I hope I am wrong but to-date it is not modifiable.

flybyu is correct. To this date, player ship turrets won't work on
"auto_turret = true" . It's a game engine glitch by design.
NPC's however, get to have this luxury.

Well i thought in the big mod s u can buy battle ships !
so it would be nice if the turrets attack enemys in range but maybe u right and it dont will work any time and X3 sucks because always at install CRC error with originally CD so **** up and play X2 ^^

My little joke about the old and the new trucks, means that old games like FL don't do what new games like X3 can do.

We will always remember that FL was forced out to market a few months too soon, and this is why so many features are disabled inside it, including ones we can see parts of the coding for.

But maybe soon there will be another game that is also as exciting as FL... maybe. But maybe not? Elite was a long time without replacement.

Actually, it is not a glitch. FL was not made for capitals for players. I don't think it was even in the design since most of us here that have added them realize it is a major undertaking and can be a pain in the rear to get to work right. Also, for turrets to work right for NPCs and bases they have to be set to autoturret = true. Look at the original code and you'll see that every turret an NPC uses is set to that, guns, missiles, and torpedoes are not.
