Minefield in New York

In the New York system is a massive minefield with a jump gate in the middle. I've not yet beat the single player campaign (if you even deal with it there) but in MP I tried for a long time to get into it. Does anyone know what's in there or how to get to it? Is this another of those single player only things?

*SPOILER* (Obvious, but I wanted to warn you anyways.)

Inside is a jump gate to to the Alaska system (not sure if it's usable, at least right away, though).

To get into it, get close...you'll be able to see the jumpgate. Now, target it and go into the view that lets you see a wireframe representation of the object. Fly around the minefield until it's positioned like you'd fly into it if you were going to use it. There's a gap in the mines precisely there to get to it.

The sure & easy way: Take the trade lane from Norfolk to the Texas jumpgate and leave it at the third trade lane ring (2nd after entrance ring @ Norfolk - just press ESC) and then fly directly to the unknown jumpgate which is about 27k to your left.

Gate doesn't work in MP. Play the story and you'll see what it does.
