Bretonia <-> Liberty... How?

How do I travel between Bretonia and Liberty in the single player campaign?

I am level 7 right now, and I want to do two things:

1) Get a Crusader ship

2) Do the trade run that is:

diamonds from cambridge to new london
and
lux goods from new london to cambridge

You won't be able to go to Bretonia in single player for a few more missions.

So I am stuck with this defender for a while, and no way to upgrade?

Yes. Singleplayer introduces you to every system (or most of em) but doesn´t give you 100% freedom.

You need to use the Magelllan Jumpgate and it doesn't activate until you are a story mission....
