Game lacks depth. Beware. @spoilers@

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Ebola, you right. 30 hours is indeed pretty good for a game these days. I think the problem here is that most people (I think) expected, and still expects, an "epic scaled" game. As an example, while FL lasts for 30 hours or so (depending on play style etc), I played Everquest for more than 3000 hours over 2.5 years before I quit that game. I know FL is completely different from EQ in just about every aspect, that was just an example to show what a game with a truly epic scale can offer in terms of play time.

FL has been described as an open ended space game where you can do what you want etc, and it's been in development for 5 years or so. That's why I do get a bit surprised and disappointed when it's pretty much all over after 30 hours.

Ofcourse, I can still play the game, it isn't "game over" per se, but there is basically nothing more left to do.

I for one am pretty happy FL is not like everquest.... Imagine if you had to sit still in space for 15 minutes everytime you killed ah
mob... ehm i mean pirate.

Well, I didn't mean I wanted FL to be like EQ if that's what you're implying. However, expecting more than 30 hours of gameplay under these circumstances might not be entirely wrong.

Dood, 15 hours of exploring everywhere is easy. I logged onto a server, friend got a Rhino, we did Diamond runs until he got a Humpback, did more Diamond runs until we both have 2mill, which was in 10 runs, each about 15 minutes. Then we both got Sabers, and explored the galaxy. Nothing could stop our two sabers, and then we got class10s, so we split up, and explored everything faster. I had everything explored in like...12hours.

Money = Easy to get
Everything else = Easy to get with money
Therefore ... Everything = Easy to get.

If you're so proud of this, then show us all a F8 screenshot indicating you've really seen everything. Frankly, I'm a disbeliever. No one can explore everything in 15 hours...no one.

I think that if you double the prices on the ships the time to reach the finer ships would take longer and you would have to do more missions before any fine freighter could be bought..

Why not just put an "0" behind all ship prices.. i ahip for 7million is not bought on the first day =D

I dunno, since they made it a single player game, i think 30 hours is pretty good really, and it is a damn fun 30 hours too, specially the first 15 with the campaign, i think this game would benefit from just adding to the universe in the form of addon packs, they could even do some Sims style milking and release one for each faction, if every faction in the game had a say 10 or 15 mission campaign to achieve some seperate goal, and you had to do them in order to keep the timeline intact, this game could laste forever

There's a difference between "visiting" each system and exploring the whole map.

Go to New York even and start following patrol routes...

@lemlestarn

the game was in development after 4,5 year the lead designer chris roberts got fired because it was taking to long and thats why i think the game ends like it does and there weren't anymore missions

think microsoft maked a big booboo with that.

the reason that it took so long is because Mr. roberts started the game from scratch (sure there are many games that looks the same)

@shadow2003, that's a pretty bold statement about Chris being fired. I'd love to know where you obtained that insider information, just to substaniate your claim.

@shadow2003

I think I read that there had been some trouble with the development. My guess is that someone eventually made the call to clean up what they had and release it. I'm pretty sure that the FL we see now is not the product that was originally envisioned.

I just read the PR announcement from MS, and IMHO it looks like it's describing something that probably is closer to the original designers idea, than what FL actually is.

I'm not saying they're lying, but I think most people reading that announcement will get a picture of the game that isn't quite accurate (again, IMHO).
