After some discussion on ship type, I decided to (edit)take the Very Heavy Class Titan in the race, and won the second time through. I do have to say it looked like the other guy was ahead the whole time, and then "magically" disappeared near the end. So I don't know if this is a random occurrence or what.

Racing??
If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

i found the racing part very easy...
i was flying crusader.. and i just engage cruise engine.. and use mouse flight mode...
make sure you know where the next gate is.. and just point you mouse toward the next gate when you passing your current gate...
i won the race in first try... and good luck to you all

The cutscene in the beginnin is truly frustrating and that you cant skip it...thats terrible, I agree. But completing the race isnt all that difficult. Just make sure you dont hit the circles otherwise you can forget about it. I dont really think it makes a difference what kind of ship you are using. Comparing to Frontier, this game has been programmed idiot-proof so thoroughly, theres no way you cant continue playing (thus far I must add)... Your racing component is truly an idiot because he fails at the end. So it doesnt really matter if you are behind him, he's bound to loose even if you're not a great racer!
I was dreading this race, because I was flying some pig of a ship. It got my heart pounding, but I was ahead of him by the time I hit the 3/4 mark, and never looked back I thought it was a big build-up to nothing all that bad, winning it the first time. I thought it was a pretty cool way DA came up with to get the ol' adrenaline running
The hard part comes later!
