Well, let's see now...the docking ring problem is probably because you were trying to land at a base where you had a bad reputation, so may want to try to improve your rep with whoevers base that is first before trying that again, Juni will contact you once you reach another level milestone say going up a level or two (which is based on your total net worth in the game)

As far as finding things in systems, when your ship flys within a cetain distance of things like jump holes, bases, mining fields, it will come up on your navigation map as a little icon so you can go over and investigate what it really is. Once you get into a certain range of those icons you can actually click on them while in the nav map portion and click on the question mark to get more info about that place or object. As far as things to do in the omega systems, yes there are things to do, but this is true of all of the systems really...you just have to go out and find them

The game is definatley big, but it shouldn't be too big for you, it take s a little bit of time for everyone to get used to it, remember to check your nav map frequently if you're having trouble figuring out where you are and where you want to go...

Give yourself some time, you'll do well out there, just might take a little time....oh and when playing MP and having a hard time try to catch stinger or I online, we'll be happy to show you around and he has more than enough hints for you, I've experienced that myself.... (Thanks Stinger)

Remember time is key...might take a little, but believe me it will be worth it. Might not want to take too big a step, smaller missions can pay off in big ways even if they don't pay 50 - 100k per mission believe me...
