Plot Mission 6 Help

Anyone getting stuck on this mission??? I can't win the race no matter what I do

Post Sun Feb 23, 2003 3:36 pm

You just go into cruise and keep going, eventually he'll not turn fast enough. At the very end, just go right past the weapon platforms, they don't do much.

What ship are you flying? cuz that makes a difference.

I'm using the Crusader.. does it really make a difference? Should I use the Cavalier instead?

Whenever I get ahead of him at the midway point, he sends his goons after me. So I continus flying through the course, but then all of a sudden, a game menu pops up saying I failed the mission. No idea why it keeps doing that

Oh, I should add this. my cruise engines cut out during the race for no apparent reason. it seems like if I get too close to him during the early part of the race, the game goes "oh, you're too close to him -> engine's cut". Anyone got any ideas/help?

I have the same problem $pooky. engines cutting off randomly.
must have tried 15-20 times by now.. I never even get in the lead (

Post Sun Feb 23, 2003 11:34 pm

well, I've finally done it!!! Musta spent over 2 hours on this mission alone. slayer, what ship are you flying? I was flying the crusader before, but I went and bought a cavalier (from the battleship you're on). The cavalier seems to be a little bit better, but not much. The engines still cut out randomly, I have no idea why. Just gotta hope to get lucky.

TIP: if the engines cut out while you're close to the next gate, use your afterburners to get past the gate, then try to restart your cruise engines.
Another tip, after winning the race, you might wanna stock up on weapons and armor before you leave. Hope that helps

Oh, forgot to thank kahar for suggesting a diff ship. thanks dude

Post Sun Feb 23, 2003 11:54 pm

ok I used a heavy fighter. cant remember the name but crusader does ring a bell.
I also bought the light fighter from the battleship and noticed it got easier to fly but still I havent beaten him
oh well, now I know its possible. tnx for the afterburner tip.
will post here when I make it (if ever)

isnt there a cheat or something to get past this?
or at least to skip the 2 minutes cut-scene that is before each race.
im not even close

Post Mon Feb 24, 2003 2:06 am

Having to repeat a cut scene over at 'different' part of a game in over is something that SHOULD never be forced on the public by game developers. They play games and they know how infuriating it can be to HAVE to watch the same thing 20 times.

Hmm, odd. I beat him easily the first time in a crusader. Never had the engines cut out at all. Are you using go to, or the shift-w command?

shift-w??? damn, I forgot about that, but isn't that the same as using F2 (Goto) ?

and yeah, that stupid cutscene takes forever!

Post Mon Feb 24, 2003 4:22 am

The goto command cuts off if something gets in front of you - planet, station, or in this case, the other guy's ship and the rings. Shift-w doesn't ever cut off (at least never in my experience) Hope it helps

Damn, didn't know that, sure coulda used that bit of info earlier!!
But thanks anyways kahar!

btw,I've been pretty much playing nonstop, and all I gotta say is, the end comes pretty abruptly

Post Mon Feb 24, 2003 5:59 pm

I used the F2 key too
now that I did it the right way I beat him on the first try
tnx for the advice Kahar.
