I found an Eagle, is ti a good ship?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

The Sabre is the most average, which necessarily isn't a good thing. A good Titan pilot can take down a Sabre with sheer strength, and a good Eagle pilot can out-maneuver a Sabre, but an excellent Sabre pilot can beat Titan and Eagle pilots of lesser skill.

actually, the aspect of the game that has always most dissatisfied me is the way that any given ship is limited by which faction it belongs to.

for example, I absolutely LOVE the way a Kusari Dragon looks, but the damn things just can't go toe to toe with the bigger, meaner ships, as it just doesn't have the hull, shielding and firepower to compete.

to my mind, this is just wrong, especially considering the way that the storyline details quite a few examples of Liberty ships slapping around Rheinland ships, when the liberty ships are actually far inferior. The same goes for the scenario of a starflier and a patriot taking down a squadron of Order VHF's.

I think that it would be much better to make which ship you choose to fly a matter of aesthetics, rather than necessity. This would be done by allowing the player to purchase performance modules at planets and bases, such as thicker hulls, better power systems, more advanced weapon mounts.

so, you could buy new engines, which would improve the handling of your ship, making it more agile, but presenting you with additional power drain problems to cope with.

New hulls would improve your armour rating, but would drag down your agility.

new reactors provide you with more power for the guns, but cost a lot.

weapon/turret and shield mounts of higher levels could also be purchased, potentially leading to the scenario of a patriot with level ten guns, but the higher level weapons present a geater drain on the reactor.

expanded cargo holds improve the amount of cargo you can tote about (by 25%, say) but degrade your armour

and so on. if you ask me, that would be a better system.

The maneuverability rating of a ship often makes it superior, regardless of what class it is. Sure, in a head-to-head slugathon an LF will lose to a VHF, but you can't kill what you can't hit, and there are some damn fine LF pilots out there. Especially the Kusari Drake, which has one of the three highest maneuverability ratings in the game.

Don't make the mistake of judging a ship based on what weapon/shield class it holds.

Firepower(placement of rear turret): Sabre>Eagle>Titan
Wait a sec, don't the Eagle and Titan have the same firepower? Or does the Titan have a larger powerplant? Either way, the Eagle does not have more firepower than the Titan.

The eagle's turret has a wider firing arc, the only way it can't fire being directly forward.

Ah, guess I was wrong. Also:

Titan is the elephant
Sabre is the Camel
Eagle is the horse
I agree the Titan being the elephant, but aren't camels faster that horses? Therefore more mobile(maneuverable)? Or is that just in RoR, AoK, AoC, AoM, and AoT?

I am not sure that camel is faster, since I was little boy I know that "horses" are the fastest animals that humans use (at least in the Middle East).
anyway even if the camel is faster in certain terrains(deserts) I am sure that the horse is more agil.
in the old trading days when they used camels for trading they always had guards on horses to protect the trade convoy.

what this ROR,AOK,...AoT means?

after a little experimenting, my favourite turned out to be the Sabre. it looks better than the others, and with class 10 shielding, there's little to tell in durability between it and the Titan. The balancing factor of being more manoeuverable than the Titan, and more powerful than the Eagle won it over for me. Okay, so its not the most nippy of ships, but there are only a few situations where this is likely to drag it down, and I'm yet to experience any real troubles with it.

current config:

Weapons:
2 X PROMETHEUS
2 X WILD FIRE
1 x Cannonball missile
1 X Firestalker missile
Debilitator turret

gear:
Adv. Thruster
Adv. Countermeasures
Level 10 Outcast shields
Screamer mines
Starkiller torps.

Ah, thanks . That explains a lot.

what this ROR,AOK,...AoT means
I shoulda explained that .

AoE = Age of Empires, didn't have camels, but it's still a part of the series
RoR = Age of Empires, the Rise of Rome Expansion
AoK = Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings
AoC = Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings: The Conquerors Expansion
AoM = Age of Mythology (is in no way AoE III)
AoT = Age of Mythology: The Titans Expansion

Now you see why I abbreviated them, it's a fair bit of typing . They're all in a series of RTS (Real-time Strategy) games produced by Microsoft and Ensemble Studios.

OOOH I gotta post something here!!!!!
Never flown a sabre but if I had to place an opinion :
The TITAN is a powerful ship with LOTS of firepower if you keep your shields up.... Lose your shields and you will lose a wing shortly afterwards!!! Don't recover from that and you can kiss your other wing goodbye...
There goes 4 Class 10 Guns that don't come cheap...
Or 4 nomad guns that are scarcer than missions on Monkey planet

The EAGLE on the other hand only loses a wing just before you get the Hullbreach iminent message... I'd luuuv to try the Sabre though just to see... you know maybe blow up a few??

Mess with the Viper and you get the Fangs!

Putting this plainly, Titans are the crappiest VHF there is. People talk about the most firepower pfft, thats a load of crap. All VHFs (Speaking mainly of the Eagle/Sabre/Titan) can outfit the exact same weapons. Power ratings? They are all the same!

Titans are a drag on dueling and missions. I've yet to find any Titan flyer that can duel and win against any decent dueler.

Talking about the most powerful weapons output would be the Sabre becoz of its forward firing turret. Its the best VHF for a head on rush. Some may talk about the Titan's armour being helpful for this, well whats the use of having 2000 more armour points when u get hit nearly all the time and not being able to get a shot back?

Concluding, Eagles and Sabres are the best ships for dueling. Which is the best? Not too sure. I've met quite a few Sabre duelers that can easily defeat an eagle. I know from personal experience and they are good coz I don't die that often when dueling other ships.

Don't forget the Drake Hehe that can be a killer for any VHF.
