How alternate are the alternate paths?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

How alternate are the alternate paths?

I've been wondering about just how much freedom there is in Freelancer. Although I'm busy getting to grips with the storyline, and taking on the routine missions, I can't help wondering how to engage in a spot of piracy. I'm not just talking about bullying passing ships. I have a few questions and I'd appreciate any insight you all might have.

1 - Is there any way of gaining access to other systems and increasing my "level" without completing the choreographed missions?

2 - Is there any way to improve my standing with the Outcasts and the Rogues, etc?

3 - Where do pirates get their equipment and trade from? Is there an alternative structure of unregulated locations that don't fall under the rule of law?

4 - Come to that , those freighters move pretty quickly, and they don't seem to want to hang around long enough for my Magmahammer to introduce me. Does anyone have any thoughts on useful convoy ambush drills?

Hey Diangelis, welcome to TLR. Let me try to help you

Before I begin, these are all spoilers. I request this topic to be moved to the spoiler section.

1) Yes, and no. After you complete the first storyline mission you only have access to New York. When you complete the second storyline mission, you get access to the other Liberty systems (Texas, Colorado, California). After the third mission, or the fourth, you should be able to go anywhere you want.

2) Yes, there certainly is. The easiest way is to shoot up the good guys. Attack some police and navy ships, or tradeconvoys (see below on how to do that). Killing Bounty Hunters is the most effective I guess. Shooting up Cargo Containers is also very good. There should be a few near Manhattan. After you get a neutral rep, take a few missions and it should go a lot quicker.

3) Check their bases for ships, guns and commodities. There are only two illegal commodities in the game though.

4) Try using a cruise disruptor gun to stop them. Or mount bigger guns, cause once you shoot them enough they go red (everything will btw) and they will stay around to fight. Missiles are also effective.

I hope I was of any help
