Defending the Order Base: Help!

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Defending the Order Base: Help!

I can't get past this part...
the nomand interceptors seem easy enough to kill but there are tons of them and within a few seconds your shields are nothing and the hull quickly gets beat to a pulp as well. still, i manage to use my shield batteries and nanobots to restore my ship and i try to kill some nomands and grab the nanobots and batteries that they drop.
then the large noman cruiser/battleship appears which you're told to destroy.
i fire at it with my lasters, torpeda, and missles for a short while than backaway to go kill some more nomad interceptors so that i can get a few more shield batteries and nanobots. the blasts from the battleship hurt a LOT. they take down your shields in 2 or 3 blasts (i've got the best shield that's available on the Order Base) and of course it doesn't take too much more to destroy your hull.

anyway, i must have tried this scene at least 10 times i still get blasted out of the sky. is there something i could be doing wrong? what tactics should i be using?
can someone offer some fighting tactics? please?

Can't remember for sure, but I think the aim of this mission is to survive for a bit, destroy the first Nomad battleship, survive a bit longer then go back to the base.

If the first battleship appears after a set time, not after a certain number of Nomad interceptors have been destroyed, you could just try running away from the interceptors Dodge and stay alive, then attack the battleship form the opposite side to the interceptors. Keep well away from it and use torpedoes. Take your time, let your shields regenerate.

Make sure you have a heavy, Order, or advanced thruster mounted. Get used to tapping it and jinking whenever you aren't shooting something...and once you've gotten that down, work on doing so even when you are shooting. If you can possibly get away and let your shields come back on their own, do so to save on shield batteries. Staying on the move is the single best defense against enemy fire; don't rely on shields or armor alone to save you.

Stalker missiles are quite effective at taking out Nomads due to their high maneuverability and the Nomads' lack of shields. I'm not sure if the launchers are available on any Order bases, but if they are consider carrying one to help thin out the herd(but be aware that the ammo is limited).

Mines can also be useful; try laying 5 or so in a big swarm, most if not all of them will hit something.

I've never tried this, but I don't think there's a time limit. You could just go round to the other side of the planet and wait, and when you need to destroy the battleship, go there in a wide circle, avoiding the Nomad ships. Worth a try

in fact, juni keeps harping on you to get moving if you stay away from the battleship and near the planet.

anyway, thanks for the tips guys. utimately i got into a groove of killing a few nomad interceptors than firing missles (catapault) and torpedos than closed in for a few shots with my lasers. after that, more interceptors appeared and i went back to killing a few. it worked out pretty good because after killinga few interceptors that'd almost always drop either a few batteries or nanobots.
after the battleship was destroyed it was smooth sailing from then on.... well until i got to dock with the osiris and saved my game.
