Flying alone

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Flying alone

Dunno if someone mention this before but if after finishing your jump turn your ship's nose up and gain 2-2.500m altitute you will be able to travel with no asteroids, pirates or unwanted police scans, you can even pass above system's suns.
last night i was trading artifacts from crete to new berlin with dromendary and with all german pirates on red , its maby slow going (if you dont use a speed mode) but it will keep you out of trouble .Of course it isnt something to do when exploring couse you will not be able to found anything standing on "regular" altitute since its out of your scanner's range.

I find it's a bit to lonely flying up there by myself, I prefer to fly at the normal altitude, even if it gets a bit exciting .....

interisting I always thought that FL systems are 2D and not 3D, only at fighting you can use the 3D benifits of the sourounding enviroment (I even remmeber a mod that alowed strafe up/down), any if it true what you say, then at bounty events anyone can do that and escape all other players easily, its even on regular flying each system is huge and hard to find someone unless he tries to jump to another system (or dock/ use trade lanes).

well I better try it and see ..

Back in the days when I could actually play FL online, using the 3D nature of systems was great for ambushes. I was part of a group of 4 pirates. Mostly it was psychology - when we disabled the tradelane, the people would see arrows at the top of their screen. This would mean (to them) that we were behind them, they would waste a LOT of time figuring out exactly where we were. Fun days

lol, that's actually funny

You mean I can climb high up there and not have Bounty Hunters and Red Hessians swarming me all over the Omicron and Omega systems? Wow, you're the greatest for telling us all that...

In response to DOOM, in thos situations where you are chasing a player as part of an event you have to trust that the oher players will play fair. Yes if I really did not want to be found I could just fly stright up or down 10+k and not have to worry about being caught, but where would the fun be in that? Only once in an event did we take advantage of being able to fly down and that was for a game of CTF, blasted those poor fools gaurding thier base before they realized what hit them

Hey, thats why i post it on spoiler forum , it works but it is like uber shields and hacked weapons, it kills the fun.
But on the other hand traveling outside patrols/trade routes its a realistic personal descision ,why condraband smugglers/pirates must use tradelines? and why to put my cargo in danger facing enemies on my way to new berlin when i can avoid it?

I am going to have to try this tactic. It never occured to me that it was possible, but on further reflection it makes a whole lot of sense. Well you learn something new every day.

No matter where you hide, Methane Cloud, Ice Field, or Debris Field, the Rat will find you.

My only question is: can you fly above asteroid fields and debris fields this way?

Post Sat May 22, 2004 6:21 pm

Yes, you can. If the Rogues get pissed at you in the Badlands, just fly straight up/down, and there will be no followers. Or if you just want to dodge those annoying rocks, it works just as well.

Most asteroid fields stretch about 10K each way up/down, it's not that much to go over it. Certainly the added safety is more than compensation for lost time
