Nomad weapons?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Nomad weapons?

I have spent a few million credits on nomad weapons in multiplayer (never really thinking much about where they come from).

Now I know nomads don't sell their weapons, so where is everyone getting them?

Main question is: Where do I go and what do I do to get these weapons for free? I tried shooting up nomad fighters and gunboats at primus, but I didn't get a single cannon out of the deal.

Thanks in advance.

This is frowned on in multiplayer, and shouldn't be done. Nomad weapons are considered "cheating" (due to their "no energy" useage) and is ranked alongside "cloaks".

DON'T use nomad weapons !

You've got to be joking. I frequent the 24/7 Lansdale server, and virtually every high ranked player on that server uses nomad weapons.

No, I ain't joking.

MOST servers don't like players using nomad weapons. Level 10's are bad enough, but when a player swoops down on an unsuspecting n00b, it starts to get interesting. Nomad weapons are also commonly used in "Dock-Camping", which is both annoying and selfish.

So no, I'm not wrong, *you're* wrong .

@kuja plz remove the cork from somewhere you've too much pent up gas.

@cakes if you say theres Nomad Gunboats then more likely that server is set for nomad weapons to drop from battleship kills only. But that means killing the Whole wave not just the battleship. If you get to far away from it then it disappears and you have to start again on next wave.

N.B. the level requirement online to get therm to drop is still there so you have to be level 34 or above.

neo what you on about namad guns ate fine on virtually all servers
cloaks however are a big cheat
if you mean nomad lasers thats different as you cant legally get them on most servers
as for the original post what mods is the server running as that will affect the drop of guns (one i played on recently you dont get the l10 namad guns in the usual places just a l7 prototype which is crap the l10 ones are elsewhere )
if the server has its own forum the answer may already be there

It may be part of the game, but that doesn't make it fair and balanced. If you put yourself at that severe of a disadvantage by NOT using something, then the item in question is unbalanced and just as good as cheating. "Everyone can use it" is not a good enough reason to call something fair play...by the same logic, everyone could download a cloak mod and it would be fair just because everyone COULD use it.

It takes no energy to use, no money to buy, has a relatively fast refire rate, and does incredible amounts of damage. It has every attribute that makes it superior to every other weapon in the entire game, bar none. It should not be allowed in multiplay; multiplay is supposed to be a level playing field, not somewhere where the first person to get the best gun can rule the whole game.

nomads are crap they miss 9 times out of 10 as the bullit speed is only 600 your better off with a set of skyB's or Krakens yes they may use energy but if your a half decent pilot you can overcome this by adding a cannonball or 2 and not holding the fire button continuosly

Post Thu May 06, 2004 8:23 am

But NukeIt, you have to specifically download the cloak mod, whereas Nomad weapons are an integral part of the game

THEREFORE USING THEM IS PERFECTLY LEGAL, AND USING A CLOAK ISN'T.

Post Thu May 06, 2004 1:23 pm

Legal, yes.

Fair, no.

Since multiplay is supposed to be a level, fair playing field, having any weapon or set of weapons that is superior to everything else in the game throws off game balance- everyone then HAS to use those weapons if they want to be the equal of other players in the game.

Follow?

If one person jumps into, say, an eagle with four nomads and whatever other weapons, they are instantly at an advantage over any player who isn't using them- they will never have the problem of running out of evergy, whereas the other player must wait to recharge when their energy gets low. The two nomad weapon types are the only two weapons in the game that do that.

Since only three ships are capable of using them, that not only forces a weapon configuration, but a ship type as well, further throwing off game balance. Now the opponent must have a significant skill advantage in order to beat said player with nomads, unless they are using a similar rig on another c10 ship. Gee, so much for...i dunno, about 95% of the equipment in FL?

Nomad weapons have no weakness. None. Other c10 weapons are limited by a huge energy drain, slow projectile speed, and slow refire rate(with the exception of a few which have 3.03 instead of 2.00). Because of those limitations, a player using...say, a four pack of Jades(since they are the closest to the Nomad Cannon in stats, except for energy) must pick and choose their shots, because they know that if they miss they will have wasted valuable energy and time. The same player, using Nomads, could stick a paperweight on the fire trigger and only worry about the flight aspect of combat. See the difference there? Both weapon types are powerful, both have the same refire- but one does not have to worry about an aspect of operating their ship that the other pilot must have in the front of their mind- putting the player with the Nomad weapons at an unfair advantage.

This is even more problematic against lower class ships and their smaller power supplies, as you could probably imagine.

Nomad guns do not belong in a multiplayer game. Take them away, and you'll find that half the balance problems in this game are solved without a single further alteration.

couldn't agree more. When i create my own server in 2-5 months, nomad weps will be a ban offense.

You know what?
You guys should populate
Yukanojo's Server.
I love it. Start out completely neutral and 5k credits. Also, you can e-mail me and ask to join my clan if you want. I have 2 members already. If I agree with you joining, meet me at manhatten and i will give you 100k credits. So, pay a visit to Yukanojo's server. Also, during the next week(10th to 16th), I will be donating my 7-8mil credits, and equipment to someone on the
[5thW FL:: www.5thss.com
server to some lucky player hanging out manahtten. I wil be around manhatten and only for 5 mins. I have kusari rare guns all the way to nomad guns and level 10 fighter shield. Don't miss out.

@Brock, the refire and projectile speeds on the Nomad Cannon are the exact same thing on the Krakens.

No, Krakens are good. They're efficent and move at a respectable 700 with 700 range. Kraken Type II's are usually better than Class 10 codename weapons.

Seems fair, what's this cloak issue. I have not come across it. Is it some sort of MOD?
