I managed to get past hovis on my 1st attempt, you just have to be quick with your mouse.
hovis will get ahead of you in the beginning , but dont worry further down the line he stops and you will be able to pass him and get to the finish, just be a little patient

Are you hitting F2 at the beginning of the race? If so, don't - hit Shift-W instead.

It's a piece of cake - I'm an old guy with poor "fighter-jock" reflexes - and I did it easily with a Crusader.

Who is General Failure and why is he reading my disk?

Hovis do's and don'ts:

Do:
- Buy a light fighter, it's more agile. One is for sale at BS The Hood. (Cavalier)
- Go to cruise speed. Default key is Shift + W
- Use Mouseflight. Default key is space-bar.
- Aim for the next gate while you are flying through a gate.

Don't:
- Use the Go-To command. When you reach your target with the Go-To command, the ship will stop. And you don't want that
- Use speed mods. Default cruise speed (300) is an excellent speed to beat the race. If you go faster, it will be harder to get to the next gate.
- Use heavy fighters. Although some have done it in a heavy fighter or even a freighter, it's reccomanded for unexperienced racers to use a light fighter.
- Freak out when Hovis starts shooting at you. Just stay in cruise and aim for the next gate. When you reach the finnish, the shooting stops.
- Pay to much attention to Hovis. Just do your own race and all will turn out well.

I did it in a Defender and a Crusader. I used the arrow key and i still finished it on my first go

Ive seen so many peeps say "I beat this loser while I was in a Hog freighter with both feet stabled to the floor and one hand cuffed behind my back." ect ect.

Truth be told... I could not beat this sucker for a day. It was really frustrating. Now im an old joystick jockey and I still did not have the mouse controls down very well. I kept over correcting or under steering as I tried to fly through the hoops.

Then I beat it easily almost by accident. My mistake was I was actually truing to fly through the hoops. Ignore the hoops… Don’t even think of it as a race. Just place the mouse arrow over the little waypoint that is in the middle of each hoop. Don’t think of it as flying… Think of it as an advanced game of… “How quick can I get the target arrow to the next pink square.” If you do it this way you will never over or under correct. And the race will be as easy as everyone claims it to be.
